Goodbye to our travelling companion!

Yesterday our greyhound Chelsea died. She travelled with us on our camping trips in BC, Washington and Oregon. She was a sweet, beautiful dog, and we miss her.

Sorry to hear that Brian. It's never easy to lose a beloved pet and companion. About the only consolation is knowing that you provided them a good life and they loved and appreciated you for doing it.

The Rainbow Bridge

Brian,

It's hard to describe the sense of loss you feel after a pet is gone. Our heart goes out to you, we lost our beloved Storm this year. Someone sent us this poem afterwards and it lightened our load somewhat.

Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge. There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together. There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.

All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor. Those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by. The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.

They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent. His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.

You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together....

Author unknown...

We wish you and yours the best.

So sorry for your loss.
Her pictures are beautiful.
They add so much to our life's but are not here nearly long enough and leave such a gap when they leave.

So sorry to hear of your loss Brian. My two dogs travel with me wherever I go. Next week we'll be driving from California to Alaska. They are my constant companions and I dread the day I have to say goodbye to one of them. She looks like a really sweet little girl. My condolences.

Reading the poem rainbow bridge always makes me well up with tears. The comfort it brings is soothing... Knowing they are patiently waiting for either of us to arrive.

Until you meet again. I am sorry for your loss.

Sooo sorry, Brian. Those of us who've had the privilege of having a furry best friend in our lives know what a broken heart feels like when it's time to part. And I don't think any of us would have it any other way. Sounds to me like your Chelsea had no reason for regrets. Bless you for providing such a loving home!

(Was she a rescue, by any chance? I have a good friend in my town who has 2 rescue Greyhounds. They're magnificent animals; poetry in motion.)

So sorry to hear of your loss. Those who've had these wonderful companions know how hard it is to loose them.

Looks like you gave her a splendid retirement, though. She was a lucky dog.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know the pain to well!
someone sent me this poem when I lost someone I loved

Don’t stand by my grave and weep
For I’m not there, I do not sleep
I am a thousand winds that blow
I am the diamond’s glint on snow
I am the sunlight on ripened grain
I am the gentle autumn’s rain.

When you awaken in morning’s hush
I am the swift uplifting rush
Of quiet birds in circle flight
I am the soft stars that shine at night
Do not stand by my grave and cry
I am not there, I did not
die.

oh, my heart breaks for you. This is a special loss, one that is unexplainably painful.

I suffered this same loss a week and a half ago with my oldest dog. I hope he shows your baby the ropes on the other side of the bridge.

She was a beautiful, beautiful girl.

Oh Brian and Maria,

So sorry to hear that sweet Chelsea has gone on and what a nice picture of Chelsea and Anne's sweet Molly in your Flicker set. We know they are running together by the rainbow bridge.
