A charitable society I work with is starting to do marketing aimed at people "55 plus" and some of the slogans being considered seem kinda kooky.

Anyway, what is your opinion of being called:
"Mature"
"Boomers"
"Zoomers" (this is a new one: "Boomers with Zip!")
"Junior Seniors"
"Older Workers"

And do you love or hate: "50 is the new 30"??

PS. If you are 55-plus, I could be -- your slightly younger sister!

Wouldn't that mean that 85 is the new 65/retirement age?

Hate it.

I always like "seasoned citizens."

The idea that 50 is the new 30 is akin to 60 being the new 40, I guess. As long as I get to keep my rank, I don't mind playing among the youngers. Just don't take away my tenure.

If you have to lump me in with someone for demographic advertising, just forget about it. I'll not participate in whatever it is. If it's a good charity, tell me about it in your literature and I'll decide whether or not to participate. If it's such that you need to make it "catchy" to sell it, I don't have time for it.

Ignore Roger, his bones are creaking this morning and he's showing his age.

I'm only 52 , so I don't count. But that never stopped me before...

I've always been called "Mature". Being a goody-two-shoes teacher's pet does that...
"Boomer" = "Hmmm, an I insured for that?"
"Zoomer" = "When you're over the hill, you pick up speed on the way down."
"Junior Seniors" = makes me think of "Jumbo Shrimp"
"Older Worker" = a socialist cog in the wheel of existence.

"50 is the new 30"?? My little brother can't add, either.

Thanks, Fibreglassers!

We have put out our first ad and see this feisty attitude!

Funny, though, the 20-something graphic artist at first chose quite an "elderly gent" photo to illustrate our "target market," we had to tell her "55 is not old!"

We'll see how it goes from here, eh.

Or is 55 old?

If 55 is "old", I'm in Big Trouble.

I'm a pre-boomer and I agree with Roger. If you have to dump me into a labelling bin and then try to get cute about it I don't wanna hear from you. There's plenty enough of that in the culture at large and I'd rather not have it directed specifically at me. [grumble-grumble-snarl-growl!]

Didn't bother me a bit when I said "I'm 55, I want the Senior Citizen Discount." I'll spend the extra cash on gas. Helen

Exclamation

Whatever anyone does, don't publicize hitting the 55 mark!

You'll automatically be bombarded by forest-thinning amounts of c**p mail from AARP. They're even worse than Good Sam Club.

You're correct Roger, stay off the lists!

Saying all that, the 80's are the new 40's.
