How to Reinforce A Map

How to Reinforce a Map

Do you get tired of park maps falling apart after only a few days of use? If you answered “yes” here is my simple solution. I protect the map sections with plastic sleeves or lamination and connect the sections with tape. Please see my simple directions and photos.
Note: While camping you could do the first method if you carry the supplies with you. (I doubt you will bring a laminator with you.)

Tools & Supplies:
  • Scissors or paper cutter
  • Shipping Tape: Clear Heavy Duty, approx. 2" wide
  • Sheet Protectors, for Binders or Lamination

1. Cut apart sections of map so they fit into 8.5” x 11” sheet protectors.

2. Trim sheet protector to size (remove binder hole section)and place map sections into sheet protectors or laminate (many copy shop services can do this)

3. Place map sections in order on a table (space them about 1/4” apart) and connect with shipping tape on both front and back.

4. Fold map and enjoy!

Note: The photos are not in order 1. Finished & folded, 2. Map is cut apart into sections (without sheet protector) 3. Map section is in trimmed sleeve. You can cut off the white binder section at this point

Map? What is this thing called a "MAP"?

Seriously, a good idea.

Another option is clear Contac paper. We used to use it for the kids in grammar school. Very durable. Karin

....no travel. I always have an atlas along.

I have been "kidnapped" by the navigation before.
I was just at Mammoth cave and navigation thought that I really needed to see Louisville again,I didn't. It was nice to have the atlas for reassurance.

Yeah, I've had the sat nav send me down an unimproved dirt road to save 100 feet off my route! Not the most pleasant drive.

I got to see a road in western Iowa that had last seen traffic 100 years ago, and it would have been a cattle drive.

Great idea

Our National Park maps don’t usually last the week either. We try to get two so that we have an intact one to keep in the Passport binder.
