It's been a while since I've checked in, but I'm using the dubious pleasures of a high-plains winter to re-connect with things a bit after a major life-style change and a long distance move to what is popularly known as "The Middle of Nowhere"!
Otra hasn't been on the road for a while, and I really miss the travel. Fear not for her, though, as she resides in a new, insulated shop building behind the house and is rearin' to go. She gets TLC and periodic systems checks to be sure she is in good health and READY.
I recognize quite a few names here, but there are lots of new ones, too.
Here's wishing everyone well AND an early spring!

Howdy, Robert!! I was just thinking about you the other day, wondering how things are going with you... Who got the Boston? And is Murph still beating you at checkers?

Hi Mary and Chester!
Mary, Miss Mags, the Boston, is still my co-pilot and Murphy hasn't improved his checkers game. I can still beat him two out of three games!
Here's a fairly recent pic of my fambly in their new home on the prairie.

Sounds like an improvement to me; I believe you used to take him 3 out of 4.
Good to hear from you. Your buddies look like they've adjusted to Nebraska okay!

Hi Robert-
Welcome back! Middle of nowhere is a good thing. It is also near the middle of the country - lots of nice destinations within a day or two. I have passed through the Sand Hills a few times. I love wide open country like that - and the fact that few people live there. Dave

As a former 5 year resident of Tryon, McPherson County, NE in the late 70's, I can attest that you are in a very beautiful area of Nebraska. That was back in the days when we didn't think anything of driving 70 miles to go to a dance in a neighboring town. We would go out and tou the "blow-outs" to hunt for arrowheads and usually manage to find something every time. Or we would go pick choke cherries and make Jam in the summer.
Hope to hear from you again and let us know when you go camping at Fort Robinson. I would be delighted to find out if the train track still goes right through the campground

Hi Donna, Gina, David, and Judy—
Thanks for the greets!
Yeah, this is pretty sparse out here. The county's pop density is 1.1/sg mi, but the density in the 2500 sq mi right around me is about .02 by my calculations. The nearest neighbor is 5 miles along a "county road" you would have to see to believe. Nearest town is 35 miles on a one-lane road. But it's great country and the people, what few there are, are the best.
Tuesday it was 72° but now we have long ice-dagger frost clinging to everything. If you don't like high plains weather, just wait ten minutes for something new! Very pretty. The trees are swathed in white and the frost makes spikes on the barbed wire as long as the barbs themselves. But despite the beauty these are the kind of icing conditions in which we can lose power which ain't no fun.
Judy, I lived in Tucson while a grad student at UA back in the 60s. Man, is THAT ancient history!
Here's a view of my place from the hill just behind me.

Hey, Robert - good to see your postings! Wow, remote or not, you've got a beautiful prairie spot. Soooo, will you anticipated travels bring you to the Oregon Gathering in July? (hint, hint) Hope our travel paths will cross in the future. Take care, L 'n D

Robert, welcome back! It's good to hear from you!
Great shot of the ranch, BTW. Is that a band of Lakota Sioux on the far hill waiting to sweep down on you?
What a great place to live! (Although I presume it's a ways to get a burger and fries?)

I get along fine with the Lakota. It's the Cheyenne you gotta watch out for!

Hi Robert! Missed you and your fur-buddies ...and your photographs. What photography projects have you been working on lately. Welcome home.
