Howdy—Back to Trailering

Howdy— I haven't been here in quite a while. Our last trip with the Casita was in October, 2017, only a short ways up to a friend's place on Lake Winnipesaukee in NH. Last year our remaining dog, Ali, became increasingly unable to walk any distance, and increasingly incontinent. We couldn't leave him with anyone, and we couldn't take him with us either, so basically we stayed home, except for short jaunts with the canoe. Well, Ali is no longer with us, so this summer we are planning to resurrect the trailer and take a few trips.

The previous year I did build some shelves in the Casita’s awkwardly-shaped front closet; my eldest son, on a rare visit home, helped by painting the frame with a rust-preventive paint; my son-in-law and I installed a receiver hitch from Orbital Machine Works (‘The Perfect Casita’); and I got a neat Küat bicycle rack that fits into it. I also bought some additional taillights so that brake and turn signals will be more visible with the bikes in back—installing them will be a project for this Spring (yes, I’m late, but Spring is late here, too).

For the past year the Casita has been up on jackstands, with its Calmark cover on from the winter (I’m reluctant to take it off because the tree junk gets all over it, but I’ll have to if I’m to install the new lights). I put it on jackstands to take the weight off the tires over the winter (and, as it turned out, over more than a year). And yes, I’ve got to think about tires. Probably should move this to the Maintenance section (was there one last year?). But I just wanted to say hello. I’ll continue there.
