Hymer trailer

Wondering about Hymer trailer. A local RV company in Ontario has acquired Hymer Gt from
Bankruptcy. we are considering purchasing one but concerned about quality longevity. Windows replacement. Etc. Spares. They are selling them for $19.9k also offering extended warranty covers most components except cabinetry. Price is good but again quality workmanship etc.is a concern. Anyone purchased one ? It’s a pig and poke. We currently own 74 Boler. We like Hymer for storage washroom bed size. (King size). It not a rugged trailer in our opinion. Again any insights feedback is appreciated. Thx.

Assuming that price is Canadian, that's a pretty compelling price. I toured one at an RV show, I was not impressed with the construction, nor the tight layout (narrow aisle). If you like it, that is really all that matters.

That sounds downright affordable. Unfortunately I don't think you will run into any owners on the forum; I don't recall seeing anyone post saying they'd bought one. They are so new, they were just starting to crank a few out (and the price was plenty high), so not many of them are out there yet.

There's a Facebook group with a few owners and many prospective or potential owners. You can find it by searching Hymer Touring GT Owners. Have you visited the dealer to check out the quality for yourself?

The quick answer is it's a great design, but for that price you'll have to deal with some flaws. For those apt to do modifications and refinements anyway, it's a great platform. For those looking for perfection and full factory support, this is not the droid you're looking for.

As Justus mentioned, there's a growing group of us on Facebook who are buying, using and detailing our issues/solutions with them. The cabinetry fit and finish on mine does need some tweaking. But that's hardly unusual in the RV industry. And I think the Hymer's honeycomb panel and aluminum cabinets are still a step up from the more common plywood and staple construction.

We just got back from our first Family trip with our adult daughter and 80lb dog. It was a great weekend, but just two nights of dealing with the fold-down dinette bed already has our daughter asking about taking a tent for her next time. The dinette bed blocks the door in use and needs to be setup/taken down every morning to get in an out reasonably. The Hymer’s best suited as a two person rig. Henceforth, our dinette bed will be used only for rain outs.

There's a growing community of Touring GT and Aktiv van owners sharing info and helping each other. The Aktiv owners are a little ahead of us and just had a 30-35 van meetup in Floyd, Virginia this weekend. To me, $19,000(CAD)/$15,000(USD) is a great value. But that assumes you're comparing it to options in used condition, or without factory support.

Also worth mentioning is that the Ontario dealer has been doing electric brake conversions at no additional cost. The original surge brakes work great. But they do prevent use of the higher-end puck locks. More importantly (to me) the surge brake prohibits using an Andersen Hitch – which I feel is by far the cleanest WDH/anti-sway solution for the Hymer's straight tongue design. We've already got a brake controller, so that would have been a no-brainer for me.

Yes it’s canadian price. It’s been drastically reduced because this dealer bought in bankruptcy. It seemed a little delicate to be honest. As someone else said to me it’s kinda like if love Harley Davison’s or British cars u overlook it’s shortfalls and deal with it.

Janimal – do you live near Sicard RV? Do you know if they bought all the foreclosure inventory relating to the trailers? Spare parts, molds/tooling, finished and unfinished trailers, etc? Their website shows about 20 in stock, but they've been showing about that same number for weeks now and I know they've sold a few in that time. Curious how many they actually have vs how many they're showing online. And if they were the only dealer to get them after the liquidation...

Thumbs up

Janimal – do you live near Sicard RV? Answer: Yes I am Fairly close I'm in St. Catharines they are West Lincoln (Stevenville) closer to Hamilton Ontario.

Do you know if they bought all the foreclosure inventory relating to the trailers? Answer: I believe they bought about 50 originally is what I was told & assuming they bought up all the remaining inventory.

Spare parts, moulds/tooling, finished & unfinished trailers, etc? Their website shows about 20 in stock, but they've been showing about that same number for weeks now and I know they've sold a few in that time. Answer: Spares parts yes I was told they have but I am not aware of finished or unfinished trailers.

Curious how many they actually have vs how many they're showing online. And if they were the only dealer to get them after the liquidation... Answer: I was in their dealership last Saturday & told by sales rep they had 22 left & some were 2018's & 19's.

In addition, they are recommending purchasing an extended warranty to cover most things with exception cabinetry not covered. The brakes are being changed over from surge brakes (not approved in Canada) to electric brakes included in price. They are firm on the price recently reduced to $19.9K Canadian plus HST. I see you are located in CA. Hope this helps.

The trailers seem pretty well equipped. I read that you could get an air conditioner as an option. I have not seen any pictures of an installed air conditioner. Does anyone know what type and where would they would have mounted an air conditioner. Being from the southeast an A/C is a must have. I'm sure they did not mount one on the pop top. They look like really nice trailers.

Thanks for the info. I might check out the dealer. My concerns were the A/C and Electric Brakes.

Correct – it's below the kitchen cabinet, to the left of the door when looking from outside. The AC, TV and microwave options seem to have been installed most (all?) of them.
