I need a place to stay while working away from home so I bought a U-Haul 13' trailer today, even though a couple square feet of the floor is soft on the forward starboard side and entry area.

I used to have a Scamp 16 but sold it in 2005 so I could buy a sailboat, but have been missing my egg ever since.

These U-Hauls seem to have been built like trucks. Wow! Here in Florida, I doubt I will use the propane gas heater much, but the former owner modified the port window to mount an A/C. This one has a really nice aluminum rear bumper.

Good for you Steven . As you know soft floors are fixable. There's a topic here abouts that someone posted pics and a good description about the fix. If you need it and can't find it, let us know.

Pics of the new-to-you egg?

Congrats, Steve. Our next door neighbor also bought an Rv to live in for work. Smart way to go, I think.

By the way, I have cousins in western Norway with the same last name as yours. (Not a common name here in Tampa Bay, anyway ).

Steve:

Pix?

Someone commented that UHauls were built to fall into the Grand Canyon and bounce at the bottom.

My husband used ours once to camp while he was going to graduate class. They had class for a week over near the Mississippi, so he just camped.

You might want to pop in over on uhaulcamper too.

Steve Welcome aboard !! We purchased a 1985 Uhaul about three months ago which was in really good condition but I must say I am a tiny bit jealous as yours seems to be in even a little better condition than ours. We attended one of the rallies ( at Waterloo Park in Oregon ) and I highly recommend you attend one when ever and where ever you can. You will not only get to meet some great people but will have the opportunity to look at other eggs and get some really neat ideas plus advice as to how to get your Uhaul to look like you want it to. Really nice camper, Steve! I have not seen some of those original items that you have pictured, i.e. the furnace. Ours did not have one when we got it. Same with the stovetop. It looks really well-cared for.

Nice little trailer!

I am finding it difficult to locate messages with items by topic on this board and cannot locate anything about repairing rotted wood floors. Is there a secret to searching here? I probably will not do anything with the floor unless I get really ambitious though, as it is just a couple of small areas and does not seem like a structural issue.

Well, honestly, our UHaul has a couple of spongy-feeling areas on the floor. So far, neither of us has gone through the floor. Kinda feels like carpet with a think pad.

Steven, I searched for +haul +floor and found a bunch. Granted none were about the U-Haul (or is that Uhaul?) ... that affects search. But plenty of posts on repairs by replacing sections to "fixes." If someone knows about a U-haul specific floor topic, maybe they'll be kind and provide the link. Sorry, I don't have time to look into it further right now.
