Is this a Unicorn? 1953 KomPak Hunter for sale
I just spotted this listed on craigslist:
1953 KomPak Hunter’s Camper - $3000
Assuming it's not a fraudulent posting (what are the odds?), this is a very reasonably priced piece of history. I may have jumped at it were things different, but I thought I'd let you fellows know - maybe one of you will?
It would definitely provide lots of material to discuss here

We've seen these before on this site. In fact, if I'm not mistaken, reproductions are being made by a company in Oregon (?). The price of this one is pretty low based on the apparent condition. Legit? Maybe. Caution? Always.

If it sounds too good to be true...
According to this article: https://autoweek.com/article/classic...captures-1950s, this very trailer was listed over the summer at $12,500. That article links to another, https://www.hemmings.com/blog/2018/0...m-pak-trailer/, which has every picture used in the current ad.
That's not conclusive proof that it's a scam, but it sure wouldn't give me confidence in the seller.

Did a little more digging. There were several similar designs, but this looks like one of the earliest. There was at least one failed reproduction, the Row 'n Tow. I am still vaguely recalling a thread about a more recent effort- Americana sticks in my head- but I can't seem to pull it up. Where are you, Donna D.?
Justus, your research makes this ad look very suspect.
Looks cool. Practical? Maybe not so much. None of the attempts to market variations of this concept have been commercially successful.

That ad is a scam.
Those photos are from an ad in Hemmings Motor News where that specific trailer was offered for $12,500.00
The pics later appeared in an Autoweek article.

I live close to where this trailer is suppose to be, so I contacted the seller. I'll report back when I learn something in case someone out there is interested.

As I have mentioned before, when I was shopping for campers I noticed many scam ads were priced at $3000 for some reason. The other thing they had in common was only one or two pics, and the price was always too good to be true.
That may not be the case here, there is some relevant info that a scammer may not know, there are a few more pics, and it is hard to say the price is too good to be true on such a unique item.
