Dang! And there's more coming. We feel for you guys. We both grew up in the Northeast and still have relatives there. Although last February we had some snow here, it's a rare event here and right now we have daffodils starting to bloom.

Stay warm and be careful out there!

Another inch or so came right after I posted this pic. It's been a long time since we've had a run of frigid cold like this, though it has got up to 33 just now. It's going WAY down tonight.

Below zero windchill here in Minneapolis. More snow coming tonight and tomorrow. Can't wait for warmer weather to use my new Scamp 13D.

no daffodils here

Oh, the February blues... it is brilliantly sunny outside right now but we are under an extreme cold warning. Its -16C with a wind chill making it feel like -27c, and let me tell you the wind is howling. Its too cold to work on my project Boler 1300 even in the garage, so i am spending this frigid afternoon looking through all the posts and finding more ideas to try out when the weather warms up.
there is one upside to the cold, heading up to Ottawa this weekend to take the family skating on the Rideau and to check out Winterlude, always a great time!

Long Winter

For sure Frank.... The winter has been so long up here in Canada it has ruined my car.

I got it stuck in the driveway during our first big snow storm and look at it now.

I don't normally complain too much about the snow, because someone always has things worse than us. Such as these guys:

My Escape is tucked in for the winter, which is likely going to last awhile yet. Once the snow is gone, I can start thinking of going camping again.

Good one Wayne! Is that your old car? I have an old car I am trying to get back together, but do not have a heated shop, or much money to get it done!

I can't wait for spring folks.

Not my car Frank. This abandon vehicle is on Pelee Island on Lake Erie. Apparently back in the day it was driven there over the ice one very cold winter.

Amazing. Doesn't Lake Erie freeze over fairly regularly, being so shallow and all?

We've got lots of camping reservations, starting in June and running through September, but boy, those dates all seem a long way off right now. If nothing else, I just started gaining vacation time at the rate of 4 weeks/year. About time!

You are right Frank. I once lived in Kingsville (just west of Leamington) which was very close to Point Pelee and there was a lot of ice on Lake Erie. Now we are on the shore of Lake Ontario and there is minimal ice.

PS, what old car do you own?

It's a 28 or 29
Ford Model A 2dr.
I was in the process of building one of them as a hotrod a few years ago.
I turned 60 and decided I would never finish it cause I liked to go south in the winter too much so I sold it.
I wasn't gonna bring it up in this thread about cold weather but we're in Oceanside Ca. with our Boler for a couple of months, was 79 today!

Our Trillium is vacationing in our son's Quonset for the entire winter. As our temps have been frigid with days of snow for a change occasionally, I'm happy that she is happy! Camping with a -52 C windchill isn't my idea of a good time.

You all need to move west. The flowers are sprouting up in my garden and the cherry blossoms are out on the trees in downtown Vancouver.

cold is relative

if I've learned one thing in my travels it is that we all get used to our own level of cold, and the longer we stay somewhere the more we adapt to the local temps. Most days i love the beauty of winter and boy do i sure appreciate the other seasons after a long cold spell.

All that being said, i thought I would share a pic from this morning. While my daughters were waiting for the school bus, they thought they would have a little fun on the swings... good thing there was a soft landing!

My Azaleas bloomed about 2 weeks ago and the Chicasaw plum is blooming right now. I think it's around 2 degrees Fahrenheit.....in the freezer. Of course, come summer, it will be hotter than hell!

Everybody talks about the weather, but no one does anything about it.

It is a sunny 10°C, or so, today. It is going to be a good night for a camp fire.
