Since we travel with our dog, we're always looking for nice, short walks just off the highway we're on. These can be hard to find though!

We invite you to share some of your favorite places to walk that aren't evident from the highway and that don't require much of a detour. Happy trails!

Oregon Coast
Hwy 101, Coos Bay

Mingus Park (less than 5 min. from Hwy 101)
In downtown Coos Bay, turn west on Commercial Ave, then right on 10th St. There is a small parking area on the right, and a larger one just ahead on the left. A 1/2 mile long path leads around a lake and into a Japanese Garden. Bathrooms, picnic area, small playground.

I-5, Medford

Bear Creek Park (less than 5 min off Interstate 5)
From I-5, take Barnet Ave east (exit #27), then turn left at Highland. There are a couple of big parking lots on the left. The park has a path that parallels Bear Creek, and also includes a fenced Dog Park and playground.

Oregon
Rt. 138 along the North Umpqua River, west of Diamond Lake

Ooooh, there are lots of short walks to waterfalls along Rt 138 outside of Glide, Oregon going toward Diamond Lake.

We especially love Watson Falls and Clearwater Falls.
