Just picked up my floating 1979 fiberglass camper
As you can see the bearing burned out on the way home. Had to get it towed.
I shoved on bearing buddies, filled them with grease and crossed my fingers but did not make it.
No damage to anything, just had to pay for a tow and I have to drive back a few hours to pick it up from the trailer shop next week.
It's a 1979 hobo houseboat but I think it counts as a fiberglass camper. It's a shell just like the land campers are

No interior pics because there is no interior at all. Got it for 4K
I'll be building it out from scratch.
Probably going to try to do something like this -
https://tinyhouseboatadventures.com/
I'll need a shower / bath but one step at a time. Fix the trailer, then pay somebody to fix some exterior fiberglass and window stuff.
Anybody know an amazing fiberglass person in Florida, maybe near Tallahassee?

With all the boats in Fla, It should be easy to find the Fiberglass help.
You have found a diamond and will have fun building the inside and using the boat.

Was using search tempest to watch, saw it for sale... drove 8 hours the next day to go get it.
They go quick. But I'm really going to be excited to build it out as a live aboard.

Could that be used as a camper for when you have to go inland to escape a storm — or just for fun?

I’d call it a “Boaterhome”.

It's also going to be my land camper except I'm not going to fit it with a gray water tank. Black water only. The shower I think I'll just plumb out the side to dump overboard.

We saw these boats on the St. John's River at Lake Beresford, FL. Very cool multifunction camper boat. Sorry about your wheel bearing issue but please keep us posted with your progress. Have fun in 21! 🍻

No power right now but it uses an outboard. Will probably put in a 30 or 40HP Suziki.
Not sure I'm worried about going fast!

Had a few boats. I advise you check out that transom to make sure it is solid, before you put more money into it.
One of them, I drilled holes for an auxiliary motor mount. Steam came out of the holes. Had it checked out. Towed the boat to the dump. Tied the rear end to a tree and pulled the trailer out from under it.

Hobo
There was a guy from my Washington DC area Coast Guard Aux flotilla that lived on one of these year round at the DC waterfront marina. He took it out a few times when we did towing drills. Very cool little boat. Congratulations and best of luck with the restore. Keep posting.

Why? One of the things that I love about fibreglass is that there is nothing that is not fixable. What about the transom could not be fixed?
