Question about the toilet options--could one of you fill me in on what a cassette toilet is? I probably have seen them in photos but I'm still new to all this. We're planning to hit a couple rallies this summer to learn more about the whole FGRV thing.

Cool Cassette Toilet

It is my impression that a cassette toilet is sort of a cross between a fixed, black tank setup and a Porta-Potti.
Like a PP it consists of two parts, the seat and the storage tank. However, the storage tank slides out of the side of the rig like a drawer. I think it is somewhat bigger than the storage tanks on the small PPs one needs to use in these rigs. Once you slide the drawer out, then you have essentially a Porta-Potti tank which you empty the same way. See attached picture from Lil Snoozy website. This link gives a good explanation:

Thetford Cassette Toilet Systems | Truck Camper Magazine

NB: I don't know about black water tanks, but CTs seem to have a sealed black tank like a Porta-Potti. If so, always open the flush valve for the first time at a campsite with the bowl empty and the lid closed. If you ascend a mountain the air pressure in the tank will be at the lower altitude, i.e. higher, and you may get sprayed when flushing. Definitely not a pleasant prospect with debris in the bowl.

Herschel, thank you for your answers!
Can the surge brakes be used with a regular car brakes/brake controller or does it require different hardware?
Is that weight with your options or barebones?
Are you getting all the graphics or can they be limited on the trailer?
I like the fact that there is nothing on the roof - looks very sleek. I love the awning on the back - like a little welcoming front door.

The beauty of a cassette toilet is, the tank is removed from an outside compartment, and you can empty it in any toilet via campground, rest area, etc. etc. I love them.

surge brakes do not need a controller, bare bones (aka dry weight ) they will do whatever you like with the graphics . my Wife ( the one in charge of all things ) had them add ( wake up Lil snoozy. )

I wonder why there is no bumper in the back to protect from the sound of crunch of new fiberglass. The bumper frame appears under the body.

ken I talked to Nicholas about that very thing , they are adding one to my snoozy , Nicholas said they are probably going to make it standard now. mine is a round tube with threaded ends for storage of electric cords, flag poles or whatever.

I guess one wouldn't want a bumper to be in the way when stepping in or out of the trailer. Is your round tube going to be mostly underneath the back end?

It occurs to me that a protruding bumper, a square tube with non-skid top material, would make a really nice step in and out. That is, if the back end is high enough to warrant such a step.
