Note all the ply used in construction. New marine Ply flooring (painted and sealed), upright ply making ceiling/roof supporting walls, wood framing for galley that contains a small 110 ceramic heater and a little microwave oven. You can cook outside on propane or butane cooktops or use the campfires/grills, BBQ, etc. Or take dry food and boil water only. Or...?


We do have a small 12V/110 cooler for insulin and keeping ice up t a month (we were surprised it worked so well) and some other groceries...we buy a lot of fresh along the way.


There ARE fiberglass campers out there, assuming you have a truck you like!?


Amerigo made them for a while, probably longer than they made the trailers.


Best luck hunting for your perfect egg. It can take a while to find, and may cost more than you wish...but in the end it can be worth it.

I think the point about the aluminum windows is a good one. Also some of the trailers have aluminum on the entry doors.

Yes, most of these have some aluminum...but "minimal" aluminum sounds acceptable. Kind of depends...like what does a 110 year old man wear under his trousers, boxers or briefs?

I tried to post a list of links to sites that list the current science - peer reviewed studies, but it got censored. I'm not sure about the links rules. Anyway, if you're interested, you can look up the 1,670 studies listed on Power Watch's site that show how EMF radiation causes harm, or go to EMF Scientist to read about the 2,000 and counting studies by the almost 200 scientists who signed an appeal to the UN and WHO to impose strict limits on EMF radiation. Environmental Health Trust also has a good page listing peer reviewed studies. Last year The Nation published an extensive expose titled: How Big Wireless Made Us Think that Cell Phones Are Safe that goes into some of the ways the telecom industry has conducted a disinformation campaign that has gone on for decades to deny independent science showing harm. I've had EHS for seven years, and it has devastated my health.

Thank you for this valuable info!!! And that's very happy news - that molded fiberglass shells don't have aluminum sheets for support inside. I'd been told that they mostly all had them.

I read a lot of the posts, and not knowing how much time you have,
or how handy you might be, nor if someone may have already suggested it;
but there is also the option of getting a "gutted" fiberglass camper/trailer,
which would allow you total control over what material gets put back into it.

If you want to come check out multiple options in the fiberglass world you can come look at our shop in Seattle. I currently have 10 trailers of different makes and models that you can look through. I fix and customize them for people as well as rent them out. Rental might be a good option if you want to try it out a few times before you commit to a purchase!

conductive metals like aluminum absorb and block radio energy. the quietest RF place you could be would be in an all aluminum(*) trailer thats properly grounded. metal screens over the windows which are also grounded to the metal skin would block all frequencies with a half wavelength of the screen hole size and larger...

(*) ok, pure copper would be even better, but noone makes copper trailers. electrically connected-to-the-outer-skin copper screens on all the windows and vents would, however, be a good thing.

I wonder if Airstream marketing people ever considered that their trailer is the closest you can get to a faraday cage (by properly grounding, as you point out). I guess the market niche might be too small.

They no longer make Ensolite with the white "elephant" skin anymore. Here are some links to faced and non-faced (raw) ensolite. Most of it is black with one vendor offering brown. You could put it up and then put marine headliner or some other material over it. I don't know how well it would paint.

What does Escape use? It’s an off-white, smooth vinyl-faced, closed cell foam product. Not sure, but I think I’ve seen similar products on marine supply websites.

Kim, by 'camper', you mean a slide-in cabover pickup truck style camper ? very few of those are fiberglass, although there have been some FG ones in the past like the Chinnooks. Won't the metal bed/box of the truck have the same radio reflection issues ?
