I love Mars Attacks. When I watch movies, I want to be entertained, either by comedy or action that is not deep. I get enough of deep in real life. Mostly, my favorite movies are the ones the reviewers pan

For SciFi fans, the best movie in the last half decade is Arrival.
And its free now on Pluto TV (but with too many commercials).
There is some political commentary in it, but no mention of Trump.

I totally agree! (The 2008 remake was a huge disappointment.)

Also the original Manchurian Candidate with Frank Sinatra. (The 2004 remake was another huge disappointment.)

Also: The Grapes of Wrath. (I don't believe there has been a remake, fortunately.)

Gravity was very good. Avatar was really good.

For martial arts aficionados: IP Man, with Donnie Yen. Considered The Best Martial Arts film of All Time by some critics (including me.)

With the kids or grandkids: The Princess Bride. The Neverending Story.

TV series: Wonderfalls. Pushing Daisies, Dead Like Me. (All are kind of quirky, but superb.)

I'm doing a lot of reading, which isn't any different that before the pandemic.

My son once asked me when he was a teenager: "Why should I read a book when I can watch the movie?"

I replied: "When you read the book the author's words and ideas are plugged directly into your brain, and you interpret the words into scenes and dialog in your mind. When you watch the movie, it is first interpreted by the screenwriter, then the screenplay is interpreted by the director, then each character is interpreted by the actor playing the role, then the entire film is interpreted by the editor. The movie is never exactly what the original author intended, and is seldom better than the book."

Oscar Wilde said: "If a book isn't worth reading twice, it isn't worth reading at all."

I think that applies to many movies as well. All of the movies and TV shows I've mentioned I've watched at least twice, except for the disappointing remakes, which weren't worth watching at all.
