NASCAR Camping

With race season getting underway, does anyone camp at the NASCAR races?

We camp up in NH at NHMS, it can get pretty crazy up there...lol

Always a lot of fun. We have friends up there that we seen twice a year. I'll be camping at the Dover race in June too.

I've looked into that as well. I think my DH would get a kick out of it. Do you camp on the infield at NHMS? My boss at the library has done it before and she said it was fun but crazy!

There's no infield camping at NHMS, there is "The Hill" on the backstretch. Tony Eury Jr. was camping up there one year when he got suspended from Jr's team.

He was telling Jr what to do from the motor home.....true story. I heard them on the radio...then NASCAR caught them.

We camp over in N5 off of turn 3 also known as "Animal Hill"

talladega is a "hoot" and much more. i've done that several times. stay away from the free camping spaces outside the track tho...a pretty loud group of rowdies. the infield is where the gentlemen and ladies go...the loud and rowdy gents and ladies. you will see things that confirm your suspicions about the gene pool. oh, and they have a race there also.

I never heard of NASCAR until I was over 40 years old,
Living in Northern Minnesota , we only had dirt track and
ice racing. Never got racing fever but camping during
a race sounds like a fun time. Maybe if NASCAR had a
demolition derby ?

My son works for Dave Whitlock, who has been back-to-back Canadian champion driver, (many years ago) One year, he was racing at New Symarna, Florida the week bf Dayton 500. The following week, Dave was able to procure camping for us on the infield during the 500. What an experience!

While I am/was a great fan of Dave's, I don't really follow the races....just a passing interest. I know.....sort of wasted on me, but I thoroughly enjoyed the experience and the opportunity to 'rub' shoulders with some of the racing greats at the time.

When I was growing up, my dad would take me to the hardtop races at the local fairgrounds and they would follow-up with a demolition derby. Great time for bonding between a tween girl and her dad!

Well Steve they do kind of a demolition derby....on the BIG tracks and pack racing when the BIG one happens. May take out half the field.

i started my photo career shooting nascar races back in the day. it was mostly a southern sport (and no matter what some say, it is a sport). we're talking the "run what you brung" days. since there was a weak market for photos of these events we wound up shooting a lot of "grip and grins" for various sponsors (spark plugs, motor oil and tires). as a result i got to meet quite a few of the famous hot shoes. with but few exceptions they were all just plain nice guys who really loved driving fast and turning left. money has taken nascar down the road to ruin...hell, i can't even watch most races since i don't subscribe to pay tv. they're all basically the same car with different decals and the team with the deepest pocket usually wins. and one great racing innovator, smokey yunick, once said "speed costs...how fast do you want to go?"
