New Escape 5th Wheel
Escape is redesigning their 5th Wheel. The new version will replace he current 5.0. It is based on the 21' Escape; will be 8" wider & 8" longer than the current 5.0 with a 60" X 80" Queen bed and 5" more headroom over the bed. It is being designed so that it can be pulled by either mid sized or full sized pickups.
A mock up & floor plan are in a thread at the Escape Forum.

Yeah, those buggers are trying hard to get more money out of me. The whole concept is very, very appealing to me, and I know Reace will do a great job on it.

Would someone with Escape Forum privileges please be kind enough to post the floor plan and mock up JPGs here? Thank you. The idea has me drooling somewhat, even though the Oliver has me lusting greatly. Love the fiberglass wipe down interior. (What can I say I dug all those seventies space travel ultra modern interior movies. Wood's nice for a cabin at the lake. To each their own.)

Don't pay attention to the undersized awning. This is from the 21' Reace and Tammy took on an extended vacation. They needed an awning for their trip to Death Valley in JULY The awning they're actually putting on the new 21' Escapes... fit and the awning leg doesn't block the window.
The picture is a photoshopped combo 21' and current 5th wheel.

Extra insulation, Dual pane windows, 13,500 or 15,000 Air Con on top. Maybe a space for a built in Genny. Extra large tanks, high rise suspension. Jeep brings the Gladiator show truck to market. A really robust floating head fifth wheel in the back, and I am off to the isolated places in the southwest. Tempting very tempting. (Then again maybe Toyota or Nissan could get off their butts and bring in a small efficient diesel 4x4...) I think I will go take a cold shower. Strictly to beat the heat, of course. It's very warm here in SoCal right now.
And thank you Fran L!!!!

Something else that folks might find of interest is this info from Reace:
Due to the variety of different truck heights, we will be using tandem spring axles on this unit to allow for easy adjustments.
The photo shows the trailer in the lowered position for mid-size trucks. A 3"-4" lift will provide the extra clearance required for full-size trucks.

So we can blame a Canadian for this heat down here? There may also be flash floods from all the drooling...

Hi: All... How do you say "you'll have to go"... after all this time?
My wife says she doesn't want to lose the huge pantry but I can't believe that a bigger 5.0 won't have as much storage space... just different.

I'm sure Escape will ensure that the new design has good storage space, but I note: - the tandem axles mean twice as much wheel well intruding into the interior
- most of the size increase is in width, which will likely be used for open space rather than cabinet depth (has anyone compared Escape 17 to Escape 21 cabinet depth?)
- the length increase is quite small

The new 5.0 appears to have quite a lot more storage space than the 19 has. For comparison, I have had no issues with lack of storage in our 19' (although we do have the exterior storage box) and the dual wheel wells don't have a significant impact on storage in our 19. Like Donna, I will drool over the new 5.0 for a while. Who knows, maybe sometime down the road I too will make a switch. A major issue for me would be losing the capability of carrying canoes on the roof of my tow vehicle, which would no longer be easily done if towing a 5.0.

Dave, your reasoning is much like mine. I too find there is more than enough storage in the trailer, and I don't have the storage box. However, we do keep some stuff in the Pilot, things that we want at hand when away from the trailer, PLUS I like the option of taking a canoe along too, something that would not fit on the roof of a pickup without extending way forward.
I think with a quad cab, I could fit what gear I would want in the vehicle either in the back seat with our dog, or in small boxes strategically sized and mounted in the bed. Still, without doing a rack on the trailer, no canoe could be carried. I have considered an inflatable one. There are some good ones out there that would meet most of our needs and uses, except that I would not want to do a multi-day trip with one.

Another reason to delay my purchase of a new 5.0 is that my FJ is still quite new and it would be a shame to have to sell it and buy a truck. ... unless there is some way to put a fifth wheel hitch on the roof of the FJ??

I would be waiting quite a while myself, as though my Pilot is well over 5 years old, it is still in great condition. The pickup I would need for the 5.0 would be the one to replace my F250, and that won't likely happen until I retire in 4 years.

Donna,
Congratulations and well deserved! What a great year you are going to have! Amost wish we had a year but at 8 weeks and counting for our new 21 we can barely stand it. Reace and Tammy are awesome (having just got back from the factory) and we know it will be a beautiful rig.
