Newbie advice needed

I am looking for a trailer, ideally a Trillium 4500 (mainly for bed size) with a three-way fridge, furnace and stove. I have been lurking about the forums, and have realized that to find one within a 1,000 km radius does not happen that often. I am going to look at a Surfside 14, with a stove and icebox, locally. Here's the rub - do I get what I can find here and now, and convert the interior to the way I want it (three-way fridge/furnace; plus I really like the bunk removal/dinette mod) or would it be wiser to wait and continue the search for the ideal candidate (since it will be a while before spring camping rolls around)?

Interesting question. The answer is yes.

My suggestion would be to buy the Surfside if it's useable for you, use it while you have it and are looking for your Trill. Sell it when you find the 'right' trailer. If, in the interim you decide you like the Surfside better, keep it!

I agree with Roger. A fibeglass Rv in the driveway.....is worth two in the classifieds!

Oh... and Cam... I am an adherent of my own advise... I bought and sold four FG trailers in the course of a year. I found one I liked... and then lucked into one I liked a little better, and then another... and another... It is a strategy that works. At least you can always sell the one you have for what you paid when you find the next one.

Roger's incremental upgrade plan sounds good, and I notice he's not suggesting doing modifications. I would be careful about is the danger of doing too much upgrade work to an interim unit. Adding a propane-fired refrigerator to a trailer which never had one would mean cutting big vent holes in the shell - I wouldn't want to do a lot of that kind of work to just turn around and sell it to someone who would not value the work.

Perhaps buying the most suitable trailer which is available locally and living with it for a while is the best way to be ready to make a long-distance purchase the next time, knowing what to look for before making the commitment to buy and tow it back home.
