New but not so new, Been watching and reading for over a year now and finally had to jump in and say Hello and congratulate all of you who contribute to making this one of the best sites on the net. The information is invaluable and the feedback, suggestions and participation from people on topics is great.... Although we've been campers for years our current project is our first molded glass unit, and have had nothing but great fun so far, reading, learning, and building.... just can't wait to actually sleep in it... Keep up the good work everyone, and Hello once again.....

Hi and welcome. Is your unit a home built molded fiberglass? It looks pretty nice to me. Maybe post a little more info on it.

Welcome! That is a very interesting design. I see you chose a classic "Canned Ham" shape. The fender/running board is a nice touch. I think retro '50s upholstery would be ideal.
I see by your avitar that you have more progress. We'd really love to see more pictures.

Welcome Ian, that is retro cool. Is it of your own design/making or from a kit (don't want to offend you, honest!)
Looks like we're going to have lots of questions for you, please feel free to post pictures

Although I can't take credit for the exterior design, This is the first cast and only so far out of the mold and has become my second wife/life.... It is not a reproduction or copy of anykind, It is custom, although I'm sure it resembles a few different kinds.... This one is being done to compliment my truck.
I will do a post when I get more time and become closer to completion.
Thanks for the comments.
Would love some feedback, from what you can see so far......

So, Ian... I don't think we've had any of our members actually build a mold and produce a one-off custom molded fiberglass trailer here! Do you have photos of the process, and perhaps a description of what kind of effort it takes for an individual to do this? How did you acquire the skills to do it? I don't think most of us have ANY idea what you've chosen to undertake!
Thanks!
Roger

I am simply awestruck.
I applaud your ability to create what you desire when no existing item fills your needs.
Truly a marvelous creation. Even if you leave it as a hollow shell it would be magnificent.
Bravo.

I mean, are you using that style for the dinette? Is that a sample of the upholstery you are planning?

The chair or chairs are in place instead of your regular cushion seats around or at the dinette, or in this case a smaller removable/folding table and that one previous pic is of above the entry storage cabinet. You can see in this pic when i had it mocked up in template before the maple or the walling... The chairs are not quite that close and the table isn't in, but it gives you an idea...... Yes the swivel chairs are a dark maroon leather that accent the interior color scheme.

Yo Ian, any pictures of the process?? We really like before and after shots, but usually we're just talking about before and after the power washing

For those of you who haven't yet seen them... here are photos of Ian's progress in assembling his trailer:
"The Silkstone Build"
Ian, that is just amazing. Please continue to update that thread with your build info as you go. Take LOTS of photos, and be prepared to answer LOTS of questions! Thanks for sharing it with us.

Hello Ian S.
Maybe we'll get a live tour when you have 'er completed;
Might cross paths during this summer - possibly at an "eggsRus" camp-out in central AB, never know...
