Not sure if this is legit or not - 2003 Casita $800

I ran across this listing for a Casita for $800 in Rio Rancho, NM on Facebook yesterday...it seems an unusually low price unless the trailer is a dog...
Thought I'd post the link in case this is a missing trailer or something...

Obvious SCAM, worth more than 10x that amount. For me, facebook is worthless ; in my area some days the majority of pickups are obvious scams. As are fiberglas trailers and other much wanted items. Nice Toyota pickups are usually $1,200 , with an E-mail address, never a phone number. I don'know of a way to report these sales, but I sometimes send the 'seller' a rude note to take down the scam. It has ruined facebook marketplace. So far Craigslist is not bad in our area. You can report Craigslist scams. David in Fresno and Sonora, CA

SCAM, I'm seeing the same ad here in Upstate New York, and our grandson in Florida saw it there. Another favorite of the scammers is a John Deere compact tractor equipped with a loader and backhoe. I've seen two or three of the same ad together but with different locations. I think the tractor price was $1200. The scammers either use a stock photo from a brochure, or they steal photos from a legitimate ad.

Thanks...knowing it is appearing around the country is helpful.. I'll try to post a warning or something if I can. I wasn't interested in it but was worried in case someone's trailer had been stolen and this was it...it appears to list a VIN number...

Can someone explain how they get anything out of you in the scam short of robbing you if you meet with them.

https://www.wcpo.com/money/consumer/...sale-are-scams

You don't meet them in person as the actual item does not exist. Instead you send them funds as they are "being deployed to Iraq with the military" or some other lie.

Even if it were a dog, the price is way too low. People looking to get something for nothing tend to get the opposite.....

Because, as with any good scam, the mark helps to scam themselves. They are so greedy to get a "great deal" that they send money sight unseen and don't do their due diligence. Same way people fall for Ponzi schemes.

We have a saying in my family: "When it comes to money trust noone, including yourself!"

The main reason I didn't put too much time into looking for a used RV is the uncertainty of if it will still be there after a long drive to look at it, even if you will accept the asking price.

There is one here in Virginia also, $800 and it is at a dealer. Me, I think it is a scam to get you to the dealer.

asI am playing with similar scammer here, who has a 2012 Casita for $800 and is located in VA... I said I would come look at it with cash and whole lots of excuses how I should go on E-bay and just buy it send money and such.
I am going to scam the scammer and say I will send a (bad) check for $1000 they can cash it keep the $800 and put $200 cash back in envelope and send to me to cover some travel expense.
DON'T BUY IT UNTILL YOU SEE IT WITH ALL THE CORRECT PAPERS!

My opportunity to vent about Face Book. DON'T USE IT FOR ANYTHING!
We have 3 adult sons that use it. Their reasoning is that it is a means to communicate with friends and acquaintances, letting everyone know what they are up to.
My response to their lame excuse is no one cares. Do you really want yourself out there? And that doesn't even touch on the scammers, which, already have plenty of other avenues to prey upon people.

My personal favorites are the people who post their vacation pics, while on vacation and shots of their homes that can be used by burglars to see if they have alarms systems and means of entry.

I have bought a few items that I found on Facebook Marketplace, from local people only that I checked out first. Scrolling through just a little bit of Marketplace today I found that Casita scam listed 3 times, supposedly located in 3 different states (NY, MA, NJ). Exact same photo, but the VIN# was different in each ad, obviously a made up number. I would not contact them at all to screw with them, why would you want them to have your email address.

Playing with scammers is playing with fire. As a minimum they get your email address and name. It might be fun but I don’t recommend it!!

Got an E-mail from scammer and they said I could return the camper after I had it for 2 weeks if I wasn't happy with it ... I replied ... well, OK then, send me $1000 for returning fee and if I keep it, I will send you just the $800 asking price.
No reply as of yet!
