NYS announced no smoking.

According to NYS in the Syracuse.com website, no more smoking allowed at state parks, state beaches, etc. This also means state campgrounds. So.. check it out:

No smoking at New York's beaches or swimming areas, including Green Lakes, Fair Haven and Cayuga Lake | syracuse.com

The new rule seems to be very vague since places like Green Lakes State Park that has a campground quite away from the beach (walking distance about 15 minutes) could means entire state park? They said in article where no smoking allowed signs will be posted.

Looked like just beaches however, could be anywhere in state parks (my opinion) although the article did say no smoking inside cabins, cottages, etc. That means no smoking at campgrounds!

I don't have a problem with that. Someones smokey campfire that drifts smoke directly into my trailer so that my eyes burn and I cant breath properly does.... and I don't know of a rule saying that that's bad.

I find it interesting that they show people "sunning" themselves, which is known to cause skin cancer, in an article about lung cancer.

I know. Not only Sun tanning, but also campfires. Have you ever thought of that? That is 20 times more than one cigarette smoke!

Also noise pollution,... trash pollution if you are not neat, oh I can go on and on. Everyone breaks the 5 MPH speed limit at campgrounds. I know I have. 5 is too low! lol.

I am well tanned this year!

So, the new law does not make any sense! Maybe they are afraid of forest fires? Well, fires are more likely started by those who left their bonfires or campfires unattented overnight.. in another word, they did not put fires out properly. More so than a cigarette or a cigar.

I suspect the rules for smoking will be much the same as how most parks deal with alcohol consumption. You can drink in your own campsite but not in public areas - roadway, picnic areas, paths, beaches etc. - pretty well anything outside of your campsite.

Well, plenty of wildfires do start with a tossed cigarette butt....since apparently 99.9% of smokers still think it's okay to toss their burning trash out car windows, or wherever they feel like, drought conditions or not. [those here who take care with their butts excepted from my grumpy rant]
