OK help me figure this out?

One of the things that happens when people get items on credit is - of course - that they pay more. They also run the risk of reaching retirement age in debt without any assets.


I have kids who spend (waste) money like they have an endless supply. Like others, I have no idea why they are so materialistic - maybe they resented not having the latest toys when they were kids? One grandkid told me it was embarrassing having us in the family because we looked SO POOR. I took a big, deep breath and replied "Strange. I feel incredibly rich and privileged. We have a nice, comfortable house to live in, an environmentally friendly camper, food aplenty, everything we need to enjoy ourselves - books, canoe, fishng gear, hiking boots. I can't think of anything I lack or wish for".

My son in law has had several boats.
He buys older ones and fixes them up to look and run like new.
The one he has now is an 80's model-a real beauty.
He said a boat owner is happy with their boat twice.
That is the day they buy it and the day they sell it.

how all this happened I don't know I did my best to teach them to be frugal all their tastes run to the Oliver with all the bells and whistles I am happy with our 13f scamper! I stay at the cheapest motels if need be they seek out the high dollar joints so go figure. the expensive hotel just as dirty as the cheap ones!

Who they marry seems to change things I hope you cherish your times with the children and grandkids sounds fantastic.

it's the old "a fool and his money will soon be parted" adage confirmed yet again...

50 grand or more for a boat to go out and not catch fishes is a bit more than crazy for me. but, then i'm not a serious fisherperson.

well we tell our stories of tenting in Alaska, Hawaii and Europe and people are astonished.

every seen hotel bills in those places? so our most memorable times were in that tent camping out and meeting new friends.

camping in the trailer good but there is something about the camaradre that develops tent camping. maybe its because they always pile tenters up so they can make more money.

we have traveled the world and not spent much money. the 50k boat was one of their middle of the road models I will call it. the cost per fish pretty high by the way!

we just got back from a trouting trip we spent 22.00 for camping and 30.00 for gas to catch 15 trouts which we will give most of them away!

life is good retired and a 50k boat or a 50k camper not on our want list today!!
