Opinions on Airstream Nest

Hi everyone,

First I’d like to thank everyone on here for such great knowledge and insight—it’s been very helpful. I’m curious if anyone has an experience or info on the build quality of the Airstream Nest. I know they were discontinued in 2020. Ive been looking for a used Casita or Escape for MANY months now...no dice. I have an opportunity to purchase a very lightly used 2020 Airstream Nest, but I’m a little nervous. I’ve heard of some issues with its gel coat cracking, fiberglass structure not done correctly. Also concerned about resale value dropping dramatically.

I do love the way it looks, and I’m happy with the specs.

Thoughts?

Go over to the AirForums and read owners comments. You’ll get both sides, some that like their Nest, some that don’t and quite a few with issues.

I believe $65K in Canada. Heard they stopped making them.

It's not for everyone. Myself, I hated the floor plan, and the price was about double their competitors, so it really made no sense to me.

The Basecamp is kind of interesting. Nothing in the Airsteam line is 13 foot. Even the Basecamp is 20 feet in overall length, 16 foot body. Thats a little bigger than my Escape 19, with a fraction of the functionality. You really pay a premium for the Airstream name, yet they have more than their share of quality issues.

Even a lightly used Nest should cost way more than a new Casita and probably more than a new Escape unless there is something seriously wrong with it. If you're ready to spend this kind of $ why not buy a new trailer, aside from actually wanting the actual Nest?
Quality problems aside there always will be people who want an Airstream and short production span assures it's exclusivity, so I wouldn't worry about depreciation. If you end up getting it, please post your impressions.

Overpriced and built by a company dedicated to building stickies. I’d personally buy a good tent instead.

The Nest is a VERY NICE $20K-$25K trailer.

At a $40K+ MSRP NEW they were doomed to fail from the beginning and there was nothing Airstream marketing could do to overcome the shortfalls of the first production trailers and extravagant MSRP price.

The Nest certainly has it's problems as does any new product rushed to market. Fix these issues and you will have a nice trailer that should provide many years of service with proper care and maintenance IF you can buy one at a proper price.

I agree with vintageracer that the Nest is a very nice trailer. I toured one and decided the layout is too cramped for two people for more than a couple of weeks.

Compared to the Nest, the Casita 17 or Escape 17 or 19 would be comfortable for two people for a much longer excursion.

If I were starting over, I would buy an Escape 19', rather than my 17', and my wife concurs. Wider aisle, full-time bed and four-person dinette.
