Parkliner Web Site

Just in case anyone needs to reference it, I ran across a link that still connects to the old Parkliner web site.

Parkliner website

Many thanks John! I needed some of the specifications and measurements a while ago for my 2013 ParkLiner and now I have what I need!

Talking of which - are the specs/photos on that site correct?
They say the width is over 6' 8".

If that is correct they dont have the correct "I'm wide" rear lights.
How did they get away with avoiding that Federal requirement?

Parkliner Width

I did a pretty careful measurement of the outside dimensions of my ParkLiner and got 82" width. That's 6'10". I was not aware of a width limit but the camper is narrower than the mirrors on my Nissan Frontier.

Does yours have the extra 3 lights up high, central on the rear?

Nope. Just the two on the rear of the camper.

I had no clue about such a regulation. Do you have a citation of that rule I can look at?

Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 108 section 5.1.1

https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/...sec571-108.xml

And look what happened to Forest River when they ignored that rule....
https://www.federalregister.gov/docu...-noncompliance

I really hope I'm wrong on this!

Hi Jim,

It looks like you are correct. In table III "High-mounted stoplamps" are mentioned as not required for trailers less than 80 inches. In table II (more than 80" wide) High-mounted stoplamps are not mentioned.

The Forest River case is scary for an RV manufacturer. It looked to me as though they had a different kind of lighting deficiency however. Something like that could put ParkLiner out of business. (Oh yeah, they are out of business...)
Interestingly, I was looking at the various state laws at <https://drivinglaws.aaa.com/tag/trailer-dimensions/>. It seems that the lighting laws vary quite a bit state-to-state.

We've been using our ParkLiner for 6+ years in the US and Canada and this has never been an issue. I'll be on the lookout for state troopers with measuring tapes though.
Best regards,

Thanks Jon. That's much easier to read than the federal rule. As for me, I think I'll just keep on keeping on. With all the wacky-ness on the road these days I don't think my extra two inches in width will make the highway patrol come after me.

You'll be fine.
But I wonder how these things get through whatever inspection
happens to allow these trailers on the road.
Someone dropped the ball.

When I was having a rig custom built (1985), I did not want those 3 centered lights front and back as they were just more potential leaks.

Took over a month for me to conclude and convince the builder that those were not required by law, just the corner marker lights. They had just always added them..........

I'm really glad for them on my Escape, as when I'm carrying bicycles, the main tail lights are obscured, but the top outside ones blink with the turn signals and brakes, so at least folks have some clue as to my intentions.

Bill, no matter what the law may require, having the extra lights up high can only be considered a plus for vehicles coming up behind you at night, been there, done that. YMMV

I agree totally. Today I'm looking for some appropriate lights to install as a high-up brake light. There's a bit of tricky wiring involved (and no real hurry) but I hope to have that project done this fall or winter.

If you just want to be legal again, these popped up while I was looking yesterday....

I installed a LED strip light above the rear window of our Uhaul. It acts as the three markers, stop light, and both turn lights. I was rewiring the trailer anyway so simple enough to wire it in using a junction box in a rear storage area.

Hello John,
We bought our used 2014 Parkliner from a fellow in Boone NC but we live near Charlottesville Va. I am a retired social worker also and was reading one of your threads about the DVD. We were lucky enough to call and the co. sent us one which was helpful. Recently during our inspection, the fellow started to jack up the wheel under the axel and I said no this camper was made to have you jack it up from the back. He argued with me and I told him that was what the manufacturer said and it is different from the norm. Sometimes I question my memory but am I correct about how to jack up a Parkliner? We named our the "stormtrooper" cause it kinda looks like one. The only real problem we have experienced was a small leak near the freshwater tank which I tightened the clamp and it stopped and our door is askew from the top bolt being loose. The fellows at Blue Ridge Trailers took a look at it and scratched their head as to how to fix it as it is bolted into the fiberglass so even if I got another universal joint it would be difficult to weld back on. Any thoughts or other heads on this problem? We have been across country 2 times so far and getting ready to head out West again soon. If you are not too far away maybe we should try and get a group of Parkliner owners to gather. I would love to go to Fairystone Park sometime.

I'm about an hour from Fairystone so I would be interested.

The problem with the door is usually not the universal joint, but the location of the hinges, especially the top hinge. The way to tell is the bottom left side of the door appears to line up OK, but the top left is way out of alignment. Also, from inside with the door closed, you will probably see a big gap at the bottom and maybe above the door as well.

I fixed mine and this is link to the post where I explained what I did. If you have any questions, either send me a PM or post in thread.

A Parkliner gathering would be of interest to Vic and I as well.
We just might be open to a road trip to Virginia depending on when it is
