Pickleball

Ginny and I built a Pickleball court for our Florida RV Park. While in NH we are preparing to give lessons by playing Pickleball. This is a great game for seniors, real running not required. You can go on Pickleball.com to find the court nearest you. One nice aspect is that the equipment takes very little room. Click image for larger version

For the lazy -

I'm sticking to running. 3 miles a day every single day until I die.

Oh to be critical of others. It's a good game, actually a good social game. Because one does one type of exercise doesn't preclude others.. Actually the people in the picture look fit. I begin each day with 10 different exercise, a 2 me walk and sometimes an afternoon swim in our heated pool. For the lazy... Hope that's a LOL

I thought Don meant he found the video link for those too lazy to look. Maybe not.

Just kidding it's a good game. Not a lot of 75 year old's knees allow 3 miles of running.

Thanks for posting this! I had wondered what pickleball was, and I was too lazy to look it up! My eldest brother (74) in ID likes to play it. Now I see what he is doing.

Do they play singles, too, or just doubles?

Most of the time it's just doubles. It increases the number of people playing at once. 20 or so gather where we play. Games are to 11. Pretty quick. Playing with different people rotating in and out.

I believe the game was named for the game creator's dog 'Pickle'

Norm, are there rules against playing too aggressively or are we just seeing a more easygoing style in the video link? I have some friends who can't ease up on any game!

Too aggressive? If you're playing by the "rules", why not play to win?

Anyway, it does look fun for the older generation (I'm 57..not sure what category I'm in- CROSSOVER? ). To me- without looking at the specific rules- it looks somewhat like scaled-down tennis? Cant play the "kitchen" and you can in tennis...but it seems to ease up on the movement required to get around the court- something that you REALLY need to be able to do on a regular-sized tennis court!

I like!

You can enter the kitchen for balls that bounce in the kitchen.

As to aggressiveness, depending on the skill level, it can be very aggressive, attend a tournament and you'll be shocked we have a couple of young people that are really quick and a couple of former tennis players.

It differs from tennis in a number of ways, serving is under hand, serves and the return of serve must bounce before being hit. The game is to 11. The opening server serves until faulting. After that both people serve on a side when the first faults, the second person serves until faulting, then serve goes to the other side.

It is less movement though I played two games today and was quite moist afterwards.

As to too aggressive, the first time I played I dove for a ball and was told 'we don't dive'

To me, you just want to "pair"/double with your own age group or agility-regardless of the age. I've played MANY games of tennis. I learned quick, DO NOT play with "pros" or you're going to get burned everytime. But it's fun when I played with guys on my level. I'm sure this game is no different.

It looks like a fun game being toned down a little. I LOVE the blue court! Nice touch!

We're in the NW corner of SC in the middle of Sumter National Forest. The nearest city that had Pickleball, Seneca is 30 miles away. Now the nearest is about 50 miles away. Bowling alley in Seneca is 25 miles away. We enjoy it!

Bowling is fun. There are two places to play Pickleball in Seneca. This is a link to all places to play.
