Poll: Do you cover your egg between uses?

Just curious - for those of us who have no hard shelter or hard roof canopy for our eggs.....the ones who's sit outside to the elements all summer.

Do you take the time to put a cover over it between uses?

Reason I ask is I'm considering not covering it between uses this summer. It's a pain in the rear!!!!

No. I just keep a coat of marine wax on it.

Mine was already somewhat weathered when I bought it, and there were a few dings from the first owner, so there was little incentive to try to keep it in showroom condition.

I like Donna D's perspective: call it "patina" and it sounds better. Takes the pressure off!

For us, of course, "summer"- i.e., camping season- is year round.

Hi: Joe & Cherie... I prefer mine hard boiled, smothered with sour cream and horseradish!!!

Mine is out in the open during camping season (April to October) and garaged during the off season (November to March). Hope to have it out year-round once I retire.

I do not have an egg currently, but from prior experience storing trailered sailboats, I would skip the cover and just wax instead. A quality non-carnauba wax should last a year. I used to use Island Girl products but there are many. Just stay away from the cheap auto store stuff like meguiar's etc.

When I bought my camper, it came with a CalMark cover which had been used one winter season in Abilene...since we camp year round and try to get out monthly, we have not used the cover since we got home(I should probably sell it)...I did put 3 coats of Mequiars gel coat Marine wax and touched this up with a new coat this spring....................

Mine remain uncovered year round. I like other rely on a good coating of wax several times a year. I have had damage from dirt blowing under the cover or getting into the weave on both a show car and the boler using covers and will never use them again.

Currently, my 1999 13' Scamp lives without cover. It was significantly oxidized when I got it 3 1/2 years ago. Today is in significantly improved condition, but takes a minimum of two polishing with a power polisher followed by hand application and power buffing with good marine wax. In between waxing, I apply a spray-on, wipe off polish two or three times. This polish only takes a few minutes and keeps it shiny and keeps the black streaks at bay.

I have a new 16' Scamp on order, to be built in Nov. I plan to get a metal carport erected prior to getting the new trailer. Priced them out and with several upgrades in roof and anchoring, should cost around two grand. I'll just consider this part of the cost of the trailer.

Just uncovered the Lady-bug today and started the pre camping ritual of getting it ready for Spring Fling in New England rally.
I leave it uncovered for the camping season but cover for winter as in Maine we have to scrape the snow off the top so we do not want to scratch it. Over 10 feet of snow this winter but bare ground is beginning to show.

I cover mine and it is EASY on EASY off. No ladders needed, just tie a throw cord on each end, ( front door grommet and rear window grommet) lay the cover on the ground, curb side, throw the cords over the top, pull the cover over the awning and top. Makes it easier with a nice coat of wax. Why not?

We cover when not in use. We have too many pine needles near the storage area. They get into all the nooks and crannies.

I have a few pine trees here on the farm sometimes I wish I hadn't planted them. any new ones I plant the deer gobble up so I quit.

Yes, especially in spring, pollen and oak droppings. They tend to leave a residue after a rain, also to prevent black streaks. It's easier to cover and uncover than to get on a ladder to do the roof. I just use a canvas and some rope.

I have a high double carport in the back yard plus I plan on covering it during the winter. Approx delivery date is end of Sept.

We have never covered our trailers--any of them. Our next door neighbor has a big, expensive multiple slide-out rig and he said he would never cover his, because the wind will whip that cover against the paint and tear it up in time. I think it's a personal choice with no clear winner. It depends on what you most want. We like being able to get in and out all year round, as we often do. Paul likes to duck into Peanut and make sure we have no leaks or inhabitants...a cover might get in the way, and yes, the wind does do some serious whipping at times. We haven't even waxed it yet. When it's really bad again, we'll probably repaint it.
