Private Messages

Using the latest version of the Tapatalk app on the iPhone, just how does one access their private messages or read them. I have a small red dot at the top right hand side of the screen that I believe is indicating I have a PM, but can find no way in the app to access private messages to read them. I do, however, know how to compose/send one.

I don't think you can, Carl. Hope I've missed something, but I've followed every icon and menu I can see. I am anxiously waiting for the next update...

According to a previous post, if you happen to be online when a PM comes through, a message appears at the top of the screen, and if you are quick enough to tap it before it disappears, you can read the message.

I can get to them by touching the three lines with red dot that you can see at upper right in first pic, then on the menu that pops up (second pic) I select "Inbox".

Cheers!

Mine does not give me the options for "New Private Message" or "Inbox." A couple of the others, unrelated to private messaging, are missing, too. Are on an Apple device or Android?

That's weird- my 3-bar menu doesn't give all those options. I just checked to see if I had missed an update- nothing.

I'll try removing and reinstalling the app. That solved a messaging problem once before.

Maybe you have to enable PM's on a webside setting for Tapatalk use?

Me too. Checked everything. I think the software person "missed" something. I have to use Safari and Google FGRV to see older PMs. Update definitely needed!

I've now checked all settings on app, phone, and FGRV website. All look good. Deleted and reloaded the app. Nada. Still the same.

Late thought... isn't there a "mobile skin" that works directly with the website via the browser? Could that be what you're using, Scott, rather than the app?

If so, it may be time to switch!

I'm using the Tapatalk app from the Apple App Store. Been using it for a couple of years. I don't remember doing anything special to set up Private Message access but have used them many times. Dunno what the issue could be in your case [emoji848]

Which version are you using? Mine worked fine until the last update.

Hmmm... mine says 5.3.5, and the app store doesn't show any available updates.

Thanks for checking. Guess I'll just wait and see.

I tried out the mobile skin. It does allow me to access messages from my phone, but it's not as easy to read and navigate as the old version of the app. Meh...

Perhaps your phone is too old to support the newer software version? I'm using an iPhone SE.

Or it could be your iOS version is older and doesn't support the newer app... I'm using 10.2.1.

That has occurred to me. I found out a couple of weeks ago that Apple considers my 2011 MacBook "vintage"- their word, not mind, condescendingly spoken as only an Apple tech "genius" can- and no longer supports OSx updates. Probably thinks the same about my 2013 iPhone4. Looks like I am running 9.3.5, and no updates available, though I did one less than a month ago.

Why did I bother taking good care of my devices?...

Maybe that's why I enjoy hanging out on a vintage trailer site...

If things like power cords etc. did not change they would not improve.
I'm sure you wouldn't want to hand crank your tow vehicle to start it.

They allow for lighter, thinner laptops, pads and phones and move more information, faster.
