Trailer: 1976 Scamp 13 ft

In my on going research for a trailer to fit in our garage, the name of Compact JR was given as a possible option. I have seen photo's of them being restored, but not much information. Does anyone know what the inside head height is with the top closed/ open? The total height of the trailer seems to be around 6'-4" with the top closed, which would work fine. I'm still trying to figure out how to get a boler into our garage without having to resort to taking off the wheels, but I'm looking at other trailer options also. I have even looked into raising the garage door to 8'-0", which can be done, but at a cost of $2000 for door and opening alone. The header and siding work I can do, and I'm on the main condo board so I think I can get it approved. But the cost is a little much for right now.

Thanks for your help.

Trailer: 1974 Boler 13 ft (Neonex/Winnipeg)

I looked at a Compact Jr. and I could *just* stand up inside with the top down, so I would say it is in the vicinity of 5'5" (guess how tall I am).

I have read that there is 72" headroom with the top open, I think. If I remember correctly Tom Trostel posted that in the "heights" thread.

I think some (many?) of the Boler 13s (and older Scamp 13s, etc.) would just fit into a 7' garage door, although I would want to measure both the door and the exact trailer I had in mind.

Trailer: 13 ft Burro

I find myself in a somewhat similar situation. I just bought a 13' Burro, which being 6'2" ceiling height inside that puts the height of the trailer at 7'4" or so outside....just a bit too tall for my 7' garage door. I had thought about going to an 8' door, but that would probably be cost prohibitive. For now I have ordered a cover and it's going to sit in my driveway, as I can't think of a better way to store it. I could remove the wheels as you mentioned, but then I don't know how I'd roll it in there I'd be curious to find out what you do, but I wanted to make sure I chimed in that a 13' Burro (at least the 87 Burro I just got) won't fit in a 7' garage door.

I started this topic, hoping to give people an idea of standing room height. Maybe it will help you and I can get others to add to the topic! I realize you are looking for an exterior height tho.

Danny H: From your comments it would appear that you are more interested in total height , will it fit into the garage as opposed to interior height? The overall height will depend in part on what has bene done with the axle. Some Compact trailers have been raised by flipping the axle, the axle is on the "bottom" of the leaf springs which give more ground clearance which is helpful on less developed roads. Others are on the "top" of the leaf springs resulting in lower clearances. Larry and Carrie rejuvenated a compact junior and put on a straight axle . Search "Compact juniors" with the search function of this board and you should find pictures.Tom Trostel on this board has pictures showing his trailer fitting into his garage. When I bought my trailer the previous owner stored the trailer in his garage but he did have to let some air out of his tires to get it under the door and then used a compressor to re-inflate the tires when he brought it out.

It has also been suggested that the tires be replaced by empty rims and a trailer could be rolled into a garage on rims, not something you would want to do every time but may be helpful for winter storage etc.

Thanks for all the information. I'm still researching what will fit in the garage and what won't, and this helped. Donna, thanks for the link, Tom Trostel put the open height of his Compact Jr at 73". I'm going to try and make the Washington get togather this summer and hopefully get inside a couple of different types of trailers to see first hand the sizes. It's great to have this forum to get first hand information. I wish there would be an add for something close so my wife and I could see one inside, but I'm patient.
