Wow- 9 hours from me (Michigan is a big state). But I don't have an event scheduled. I'll think about it

I feel as if I made significant progress this week, because this step was difficult.

Nice work, Joan!

And, as always, you think it all through thoroughly & carefully... making a test-pattern, etc. Good job. Congratulations on the progress.

My sympathies on the weather. 94 with high humidity here, yesterday & today.

Gary

More than you ever wanted to know about my mental processes in rethinking the electric. But I have to make final decisions before I can put the wiring in the walls.

This is a single-walled Companion.
I am dismayed and mystified and looking for ideas. Yesterday, I finished cutting the supports for my trailer interior, and was about to start fiberglassing them in, when I discovered that the entire floor under my new vinyl was soaked. Really and truly wet, not just damp. Fortunately, except for some tape along the wheel wells, it was not fastened in anywhere, so I pulled it out and dried everything. But I need to learn the source of this water before I proceed. There is a small hole yet which I discovered when I took out the benches, on the undercut portion of the body's curve. That's been there since I bought the trailer, apparently. So I need to patch that. There are also four open holes, screw size, where the reflectors attach to the bottom front. However, it seems unlikely to me that so much water could come in those places. The windows do not leak, I've sat in the trailer in the rain and there are no obvious leaks, and the only think I can think of is that this was caused by condensation. What am I going to do? Will this be solved when I get the insulation on the walls? Maybe I need to get at least some of the insulation in ASAP before I proceed with structure. Was hoping to put the bed/table back in to use the trailer in a couple of weeks, but maybe I'll have to revise the order of events. I can do SOME of the insulation before structures are added.

"Nevertheless, she persisted."

So, in answer to your last question in the blog, "Yes!... I DO believe you'll get the camper together, and sound, and useful, and enjoyable, and road-worthy, etc... before you kick the bucket."

I finally got frustrated in leak-chasing on our CT and put a perforated rubber mat under the flooring, along with some added drain holes, so that I wouldn't have to agonize over tearing out the flooring regularly........near as I can tell, it hasn't leaked water in since. Huh.
And so I just keep on keepin' on...........

So maybe I shouldn't have sealed ALL the holes in the floor. Not to late to re-open a couple.

What kind? Where did you get it? I just looked and most is 1/2 to 3/4 inch thick. Seems like something thinner would work. Would perforated yoga mat "for moisture control" work?

What about this stuff?

Joan,
I think that IF you wanted to put a perforated mat underneath your flooring, it'd have to be somewhat firmer or more "irregular" than the shelf-liner material, to really allow water to flow slowly toward a drain. I used a perforated anti-fatigue mat, approx .3" thick, and we have a cork-composite sheet flooring that the previous owner had installed over it. The cork sheet is only a little over 1/8" thick, and we don't feel the perforations through it.

The U-Hauls had several screened floor drains, stock. I just added three more, where the floor had deformed a little bit inside the door, and in front of the counter.
And I REALLY don't know if what I did was necessary. I was just tired of chasing leaks, and wanted some means of escape for water trapped underneath the flooring. And, of course, we haven't had any noticeable leaks since.[!]

And here's a link for the 2" stainless steel soffit vents I used. I bored a stepped hole to accommodate them, by boring just a little way into the floor with a hole-saw, then switching to a smaller hole-saw to bore clear through the floor... chiseled out the little step in the hole... sanded the hole edges... and sealed them in place with 3M automotive seam-sealant.

All-in-all, these additional drain holes are sorta similar to the several drain holes that U-Haul had built in inside the seating areas front & back, and underneath the sink. I think there was also a drain down below the closet area.

Not as much progress as I thought should happen in one afternoon, but at least I'm finally going in the right direction.

Great work!

I'm thinking this is like... where camper restoration meets boatbuilding. Nuisance-some, but rewarding feel, yes?
