Removing paint on outside

What is the best way to remove a bad job of spray paint from the outer shell? Stripper solvent or sanding or other options?

Depends on the type of paint. Start with the cheapest, easiest method and work your way towards harder. Don't sand blast, that will permanently damage gel coat.

Mentioned elsewhere I try acetone first. It will remove cheap spray paint. Test a small area out of the way, "start small, win big, start big, lose big."

Paint stripper is nasty stuff!

Thanks, I felt the stripper was too harsh as well. Just using my fingernail or putty knife scrapes it off.

Some successfully use green pad with soap and water.

I recently used some old citristrip on a small area. It worked in a few minutes and then I had to remove and clean the surface.

MEK (Methy Ethyl Chloride) is a good paint stripper that won't hurt gelcoat, but don't get it on anything plastic as it's a fine solvent for that. Home Depot, etc.



Also not good on asphalt or lawns.........it's going to be a messy job. When I stripped a trailer I got a whole bunch of cardboard boxes to put under it. Wear throwaway shoes.
