How tough will it be to find campsites at Mt Rushmore and Yellowstone without reservations in July. I cant make reservations as I dont know what days I will be where. You know how it is, you dont feel like going to far one day and the next day you get a great site and stay an extra day or two.
The last time I was in the Yellowstone area, finding a camping spot would have been almost impossible. Had trouble finding a spot for just a couple of sleeping bags. Mt. Rushmore was bad, but not AS bad.
Hi, we have always had good luck getting into Kemp's Campsite in Keystone just at the base of Mount Rushmore. Now Yellowstone is another story! I suggest if you get stuck without reservations you drive south of West Thumb and look for campsites in The Tetons Park - not quite so crowded and still within reach of Yellowstone for day touring. Jackson Hole is nearby too.
Try the West Yellowstone KOA. It's right on the West Gate of Yellowstone Park. That's where we will be from July 6th thru the 11th. We got our reservations early but there may be cancelations.
Thanks, appreciate your help.Pete, maybe I will see you at the KOA
in West Yellowstone...keep on the lookout for a 99 White Dodge Van 1500, telling his wife to stand where I can see her so I can back this thing up!!!
