Retired !

Well as of 3:00 P.M. today I retired from 30 years of Law Enforcement. Now What? Rest, fishing, hunting, more camping. Yes to all the above. I am so thankful that God has kept me safe all these years. Now time to slow down a bit, relax and breathe.

Congratulations! When I retired the coworkers gave me a clock, and I thought: do I really need to know the time? Maybe the day of the week would be enough. But knowing the time is actually good in order to avoid the rush hour traffic. Enjoy the new life.

I'm sure you won't like retirement. It will be terribly dull and you'll be bored silly. I am willing to spare you the agony and do it for you, if you'll go back to work and send the money to me.

Congratulations Ted. You'll find retirement more exhausting than a job. I retired a year ago. I get up in the morning with nothing to do, go to bed at night with only half of it done. How to keep up with everything wears you ragged. How did we ever get things done when working?
Enjoy yourself, you deserve it. Thank you for your 30 years of service.

Thirty years is a long time at any one job I know because I retired 4.5 years ago after thirty years.

Retirement is the most rewarding time I've experienced and highly recommend it.

I wish you a long & happy journey.

Thanks guys. Just turned 49 in October. Started young. It feels so strange to me already. Not quiet sure where to start. It's 4:02 A.M. here and I just can't sleep. And no I haven't worked 3rd shift in 28 years. But I guess the best thing with that is I can sleep in when I finally do doze off because I don't have to worry about working today which would've been my day to start at 7:00 A.M. Switching from 12 hour days to 0. Oh well I already feel a big relief lifted.

I have been told that it takes some people a period of time to "adjust" to retirement mode. I wasn't one of those people. My wife retired in June of 2012 after teaching 38 years, and didn't hit retirement realization until she didn't have to go back in the fall. But at some point, all work related stress dissipates. Whenever I'm asked "how's retirement," my usual answer is "it's not over-rated one bit!"
