Roof Mounted A/C or Front/Side Mount ???

I would at least order it with the roof structure strengthened for one even if you do not get the Air Conditioner itself right away. Normally if you order it without, the roof structure cannot support the weight and you have no choice but mount a Window unit in a window or under a bench or in the closet.

I live in the Pacific Northwest so thankfully will never be faced with this decision!

However, if I was:

I think I'd opt for roof-mount since inside storage/wall/window space is already so limited on these little trailers. I'd hate to give up one square inch of such space if I didn't have to!

It's far cheaper to replace a storage/wall/window air conditioner than roof mount. But, I'm with Francesca. Get it up and out of the way. Cold air sinks.

Does the roof model A/C Scamp offers come with a heat strip? I'm very impressed with the heat strips I've seen in Casitas. Plenty warm and no roaring heater fan. Of course, you have to be hooked up to power.

The roof mount is the way to go. The only drawback would be if it interfered with door height in your storage building.
The price difference is more than offset by the quality difference.
Also if you order the roof A/C , consider adding the heat strip, it's a great option!

As I've said many times, I wouldn't want roof mount, because I don't want to give up the Fantastic Fan in the vent above the bed (in our Casita). YMMV with a Scamp. (Casita puts a FF in the forward vent when there's the roof mounted AC. I'm sure that helps, but I like the FF over the bed.)

Neighbor bought a new Casita with AC in the right front corner. I am very happy with the roof mount on our Scamp --- The storage room is very important in the front corner.

I bought a Polar Cub 9200 BTU from another member that he had for his Scamp and never put it in.
I put it in my 17 foot Bigfoot works great in 100 plus temps.

Roof mount may not be the cheapest way but is the best way.

My 13 Scamp has a front bath, a roof mounted A/C, A fantastic fan above the bed, and a roof mount antenna.

I was only pointing out that... if there is enough roof space on a 13 Scamp then there certainly would be enough room on a much larger 17 Casita.
Although this boat (Portland Pudgy) might fit just fine!...

We can not put a roof mount on our boler roof is not strong enough but they make a side mount rv unit that will fit under seat.

Will consider making one using a cooler, 12 volt pump, heater rad, 12 volt fans and some hoses.

Got the idea from a web site, place ice in cooler with a little cold water close it, hose runs from bottom of cooler through lid up to rad through it and then pump back to cooler closed loop with fans blowing air through the rad; this swampy being closed will not add to much moisture.

We have no power most of the time while we camp except battery, also can use extra hoses to power rig from cool stream with filter for times near one. (may require second battery)
