Exclamation

I saw an older camper being towed behind a car the other day that had a boat on top. The boat was strapped or clamped upside down to the roof and the camper was small. I was wondering what kind of camper it was and where one might find some pics of it? I really did like it and would like to maybe purchase one. Thanks

Two I know of are the Trailorboat (very vintage) and one that has had various names that are usually variations on Miti Lite (but not all of them had boats on top; in fact, maybe only very few built by Take 5).

I think the Trailorboat would only provide rudimentary camping; the Miti Lite type have a pop up and are still small, but not crazy small.

I think they must both have links on the home page, so you can see them (I looked, and they are both there - although the Miti Lite is not shown with a boat, probably since so few had them).

Originally, the trailerboat was modeled after a 1953 Ford station wagon licensed by Ford to commemorate 50 years. Later, they were more conventional design ( into the 60s). A company in CA has the molds and is planning to produce parts as the boat part is rare. They had a canvas top supported by ribs. It was a basic unit meant for a sleeping area

Hi Dave,

The Miti-lites with a boat on top still had the same pop top as the boatless ones. The boat sat on top of the pop top lid. Even on the boatless ones you can see the rim around the top of the lid where a boat would fit.

I can't recall the name of the boatful ones right now, but they were made by Take 5, if I remember correctly. Same mold as the Miti-lite, Mity-lite, etc. I think Take 5 (if that was the exact name) is a Washington based company.

Here are a couple of photos of the "Take Five" Mity-Lite with the boat that was made to fit on top:

And, a link to a thread discussing them:

A contributor there saw the logo up close and it said "Take Five - Mity Lite, Inc."

How much are you willing to pay for an [b]original Trailorboat Rolling Cottage? I've got two, the one pictured in the ALBUMS (a 1961) and a 1963, both in dead stock original condition. The 1961 is a "keeper" for me but the '63 could be "had" for the right price. Most estimates place the number of remaining original examples in the "couple of dozen" range, [b]even fewer with the boat intact.
