Scamp 16D - layout?

For those that have a 16D, which layout do you have? Front dinette or side dinette? What do you like and dislike about your layout? Any input is appreciated. Thank you!

Side dinette. I can’t recall why I made that choice, maybe a larger bath, but it has worked well. Depending on the type of camping, I can leave one set up as a bed and the other as a table. Many times, I leave both down and use the camp site picnic table. Note that both should be down when traveling. The picture here is my 2017 mostly as it came from the factory. You may want to ask what they are really building now because it looks to me like a combination of two floor plans.

Scamp 16D Layout A (oak) with front sofa/bunks in place of the front dinette.

We wanted the 54" bed in a Scamp 16 trailer and the Deluxe was the only
way to get that.

However, we have previously had 2 (or 3?) grandkids go with us in the trailer.
Neither the standard Layout A or Layout B would accommodate that need.
The front sofa/bunk-beds was a "no charge" swap at Scamp . I did leave
the sink out of the side bathroom to make it a bit more usable.
If you call Scamp trailers (800-346-4962), ask for Wayne Pitlick.

The side bathroom is smaller (and shorter) than the front bath but we don't
spend a lot of time in there. It is fine for nighttime needs (especially when it
is pouring down rain outside).

We generally prefer to eat outdoors. However, to provide an indoor dining
option in inclement weather, I installed the Lagun table mount system.
When not in use for dining, the table tucks away in the area over the sofa
and in front of the side bathroom. There it can be used as an armrest or
side table.

Pix of our 2017 Scamp 16 Deluxe (oak) with front sofa/bunks can be

Good luck with your choices!

We had a 16DLX Side Dinette, front Bath for 16 years. Older couple, no pets.
Left the rear bed up full time. made two slide out storage trays for under the bed.
Left the side dinette table up. Added a wood cleat under the table, attached with screws from outside to secure the table from rocking on its post.

One unusual feature of the 16’ deluxe layouts (not pictured on the website) is the cantilevered stove on the side dinette layout with the larger fridge. It hangs out 6-8” or so over the rear dinette bench. It’s a non-starter for me. I’d rather have a shorter bench on that side. You don’t need 54” on the foot end anyway.

Agreed, Jon. If you look close, you can see that little overhang in the Scamp
Promo video on YouTube. We do like the fact that all of the bed space is
usable on our Layout A. No overhang on our sink/stove cabinet.

Another note is the additional counter space on the Layout A. We have
enough room between our stove and sink to put a coffee pot. The Layout B
doesn't have much space there.

We like the open/spacious feel of our Layout A. Because you can see out the
front window and the back window, our trailer feels like (or gives the illusion
of) a larger trailer. The front bath model blocks out the view to the front.

We like all of the storage in our Layout A. We have upper cabinets around
most of the trailer. My clothes go in the front two cabinets over the sofa and
in the two back side cabinets by the refrigerator and microwave. My wife's
clothes go in the two back cabinets and the other two back side cabinets.

The cabinet door under the front sofa (that held the porta-potti in our
Scamp13) holds our laundry basket, our little ceramic space heater, etc.
The other two compartments under the front sofa hold beach towels, swim
suits, trailer repair equipment, etc.

I think that I would describe my wife and I as medium-size people. If we
were larger, the roomier front bath would probably be nice. In a few more
years, when grandkids are no longer interested in going with us, we might
like actually having the normal Layout A front dinette?

Our trailer might not suit everybody but, for now, it works pretty well for us.

I've come to the conclusion that there really isn't a perfect trailer for
everyone. There seem to be pros and cons to every brand of trailer and
every trailer layout. You just have to evaluate your wants/needs and know
that there will be trade-offs.

Again .... good luck with your own choices!
