Sellers beware

I showed my camper to a guy named Austin yesterday, said he was from Boulder. Made a deal on my camper and said he was going to the bank. Never returned. Sure makes me wonder about his intentions. Driving a black Forerunner with a rack on top. Watch out???

things/people being what they are now,i would probably not show my trailer at my home. i'd be tempted to meet a potential buyer at the police station. many in our area who sell on craigslist have started doing that. our local police are very cooperative & will be supervising the inspection/sale when it's conducted in their parking lot. i would then follow the person to his bank so he could conclude the purchase, & get his license plate & telephone #s. you just can't be too careful these days. did you call him to find out why he didn't follow through at his bank? if you don't hear from him,i'd keep a real watch out for your trailer for awhile, if you showed it/store it at your home

Maybe he just had buyer's remorse before completing the transaction.

Trust your instincts and take reasonable precautions... but I think you can be "too careful"... "Too careful" shares a border with "paranoid"

The guy probably couldn't get the money or he was just trying to leave gracefully.

Probably what Floyd said. But I would make sure the trailer is secure. Yup, maybe a bit more than usual.

Selling your item at the police station

I once sold an item off of Craigslist. The buyer INSISTED we meet at the local police station parking lot. Ok, no problem, also NO police. I could have killed him several times over and his screams would have fallen on deaf ears. Sometimes ya just have to cater to the whims of the paranoid.

A firestation is also a good meeting place. I once met a buyer at a large mall under one of those police lookout platforms. Buyer didn't know if there was a policeman in it or not. Had a niece sell her car from her home. Guy left his car in front of her house while he drove her car. Soon his car was gone and her car was never returned. The police recovered it a few days later but it had been striped.

Re= never showed up!

Make sure the hitch is locked so he cannot come in during the night to hook up and disappear with your trailer as seems to be happening these days.

One of our best just explained my error in a PM.
It was I who got it wrong.
My sincere apologies.
Excuse me Patti!

Floyd, you were not the offending party. The way I read the thread is that Patti [Keekers] was saying the prospective buyer should "man up and and say so." not you, sir. The point was that the prospective buyer was being uncivil by not communicating he was not going to complete the transaction.

Take no offense, we all wish you well.

If I have misidentified who was offended, pardon me.

Maybe the guy received a call telling him his kids had been in a major accident.
Maybe he got a call from a colleague telling him his employer was going out of business.
Maybe, who knows.
