Note: There is a link, (or links) in the serial number to further info on the trailer, and if owned by a member, then the name links to their profile.

New-to-me '78 Trillium 4500, S/N 45-1100994. While I have the sticker, it is not affixed to the closet wall. It was actually folded in half onto itself, so I took 2 photos and put them together as one.

Nice! A 4500 deluxe, in excellent shape. New covers on the cushions.
I can't tell from the outside shot, is the rear bumper a 4"x4" square tube?
Is the white, (Colonial white?) finish on the upper cabinets original? It has fallen off on all my 4500's.
Is the axle rated at 2000 lb?
On the list, your Trillium will be between two of my trailers. Yours looks just like them. They are nice eh? I think I know your trailer, almost as well as one of my own.

Interesting compilation. I don't know the year of my 4500 ( think it's 78), but the ser # is 45-1100942 front gaucho, 2000lb.

Yes, David...the rear bumper is a 4x4 square tube and the finish of upper cabinets is original although definitely showing its age somewhat! I was told the axel was rated at 2000 lb, but I didn't verify it. How could I go about checking that? It's a great camper... I'm SO ready to have more freedom to GO! (Working on that!)

Nice!
It looks like you have the split dinette table; did it come with the leaf that goes in the center?

Yes, Francesca...I have the leaf for the dining table. It was stowed in the closet at the time I took the photo.

Unfortunately, the only way to check the axle, as far as I know, is a data plate, about dead center on the axle. I had mine jacked up to see it. Since you are in Florida, at least you wont have to roll around in the snow. Also, the brake on the original were 7".
Are the brakes 7"?
The reason I was asking is because I suspect that your axle is original. If it is, it is possible that it is still good, but may have less travel then when new. If the arms on your axle are still more or less level, then the rubber has at least not disintegrated, though it may be harder then when new.
I changed my 2000 pound axle to a 3500 pound unit, with 10" brakes. I also changed my coupler to a 2" ball, also rated at 3500 pounds. I think I went with too much axle capacity. If I had to to do it over, I would shoot for 2500 pounds, and 7" brakes. The coupler would be the same.
In my opinion, you have just about the best trailer in that size range. You are fortunate. Enjoy!

Mine is a 1979 4500 serial number 45-1101034 Front Goucho
Looking at serial number,my trailer is may actually be a '78. License plate registration lists as '79.

That puts your '79 directly between my two '78s. Does your door window open? That was only done on the 78's. The registration being wrong is kinda typical for Trilliums. The factory made the trailers up to a year before they were sold. So, when someone purchases a brand new trailer in '79, they typically don't want to register it as a '78. This trend is evident right back to the 70's models. That is kinda why I started this thread.
Would it be possible for you to post some pictures of the inside and outside of your trailer? Or, just a link to where such pictures can be found. I like to link to pictures, as well as provide the serial number. And, if it is not asking too much, a picture of the data sheet that should be on the inside of your closet would also help.
Now that we are on a new page, I will be publishing a new list soon. I will wait a bit though.

Dave,
Yes my door window opens. Makes sense about '79 on title vs. '78 actual.
Will take a few pics soon.
Just started reviving the rehab of trailer. Currently pulling windows to rebuild and prepping for paint on hull. Stopped work on trailer after structural repairs. Frame clean up and powder coat, new axle w/ brakes, replace bit of rot in floor. Still to redo: electrical, plumbing, gas, and decorating.
Rear window has only one jalousie unit, other removed to install A/C unit. Would like to have escape/egress window instead. Looking for what kind of latches were installed. Pics or any supplier if anyone has or knows.
Regards, Dave

I can get you all the pictures you want, but sourcing the escape hatch is not so easy. I could probably find you a window that is like your front window with jalousie's on both sides.
What do you want pictures of?

Dave,
I was thinking of using laminated glass and an aluminum frame, hinging it at the top. It was the latch and release mechanism, frame profile, and hinges that I wasn't sure of. Everything else I had figured out. If there was a jalousie unit out there that could be put in, I would put in a roof escape hatch instead. Still would like a pic of how the original window/latch functioned.
Your friend fiberglass, Dave.

Check with Joe Thoen in Calgary. He runs Trillium / Outback. They have lots of spare parts for older Trilliums. (403) two seven two - 3929.
As for pictures, I noticed that you have a thread that has pictures:
http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ing-28467.html
This is exactly like the three in my yard that have an escape hatch. Is there a specific detail that is missing that you want a picture of?

Wow, where did 7 years go? I'm still asking the same questions. Thanks for digging that up, it is exactly what I was looking for. Nothing missing. I would still prefer to have a more accessible emergency exit, not thru the roof.
Just checked with Joe Thoen, nice guy and very helpful. He is hooking me up with a replacement jalousie unit.
Dave, could you share your views on painting old gel coated trailers. You've done a couple. Has your technique or paint choices changed?
Dave S
I may be getting way off topic here. Sometimes this feels like shooting the bull with friends.

Umm.... Actually, I have not painted any trailers yet. The two that I have done the belly band on still have a brown fibreglass stripe around them. This summer will be another belly band surgery, and paint to at least one trailer. I will post how it goes.
