White exteriors? Did first gen exteriors even come in white?

Didn't you post a number a number for ivory or whatever they call that cream color I thought all first-gen Trilliums came in?

You are correct, Dave. My trailer has been painted, really poorly painted! It was originally green outside and inside with front gaucho.

Soon to be repainted correctly, but not green.

Thanks for all our research, I find it really interesting.

I would really like to hear from those of you with another Cantaloupe, that is green on the outside and orange on the inside. It would be nice to have an example with the colour codes. This colour scheme was not uncommon at one point.

Like this one in the registry?

The owner hasn't been around for awhile, but it might be worthwhile to send a P.M. and ask...

Just a thought!

Yeah, but that one is a 1973, so it probably has the same serial number format as mine.

Thanks for pointing it out though. It also has a C-channel frame like my Cantaloupe. Tom Young at TrilliumRV.com did not believe that my frame is original. This is now the fourth one I have seen.

BTW - I am now doing a mass mailer campaign. Everyone on this site that has a Trillium is getting a PM, or email from me, asking for their serial number. I apologize if this is a problem.

Vin #'s

Hi
Have not been around the forum for a while, but got an email from Dave T re this thread.

I am the origonial owner of a 1975 13' Trillium. The closet sticker deteriorated a long time ago, but i still have the pieces somewhere.

The VIN # on my registration is 1102833 there is NO "13-" in front of it

The trailer is "off white" inside and out.
Front goucho(bunk) rear dinette, no rear bunk
Did NOT come with upper shelves
NO build sticker on the front.
Has the L300 Bargman door lock
Has the Dometic 3 way fridge -- still works

And best of all, i've used it every year since 1975

I purchased it in Saint john NB Canada (where i still live) in the spring of 1975

Hope this info helps your persuit of VIN decoding!

Hi Again

Forgot to add that my Trillium still has it's origonal Rectangular Tube frame, had to add welded on reinforcer plates at the front bends years ago, as many have had to do.

It has always been stored out doors, uncovered.

Francis, I am putting the 13- on the model number, because we have found that the registration office makes mistakes. If you find the sticker, please let us know. Also, do you have the model number of your fridge?

Hi David,

Responding to your email here. I am currently out of the country and can't take a look at my Trillium for it's serial and other numbers, I will have to get these to you later. A couple of comments that I will make, many of them coming from Tom Young and other RV dealers I have spoke with are:

1. Tom told me that they would build the Trilliums and warehouse them. From the time they built them to the time they were sold up to 2 years could pass.

2. Back in the '70s especially, the year the trailer sold was the year of manufacture the dealer would put on the sales and subsiquently the registration forms. Back then the motor vehicles divisions were not too worried about trailer years. Again, this could cause a 2-3 year gap from the year it was built to the year it was sold. I also have found this to be true with boats in the '70s as well, and especially their trailers.

3. When the bank took over and liquidated the Trillium operation back in '80 or '81 they started by liquidating completed units that were in the warehouse, then they started assembling completed units from all the spare parts that were in the warehouse and selling off some 'Frankenstein" units that were a bit of a mish-mash. I think the ones that are green outside but off white inside may be an example of these. Tom told me this himself.

When Tom saw my unit he seemed to think it was older than a '78, he said because at some point in '78 they started using the front mold from the front dinette model and closing the gap where the seats are by screwing a piece of plywood there for the bunk models. I bought my Trillium with the original bill of sale, from pretty much the original owner, which clearly marks it as a '78. I also have the original registration and insurance papers for it from ICBC (the goverment run registration and insurance agency in BC where I live) and they clearly mark it as a '78 as well, but if mine was built in '76 or '77 and sat in the warehouse or a dealer lot for a year or two this might be why it has the solid front bunk mold, thus Toms comments about it appearing older to him.

I realize that my comments here are probably not what you want to hear but may help with some of the conficting information and confusion.

The one other possibly valuable thing that Tom told me was something along the lines of if you take one of the numbers (the RIVA number?) to one of the standards web sites, CSA?, that this number gives the exact year of manufacture because they stuck those on in a serial fashion as they were built and registered with that governing body. I think Tom said that you could go to their website and plug the number in somewhere and it would tell you the month, day?, year the certificate was issued, thus the exact year of manufacture.

Rodre, There is nothing that I "want" to hear. I do however really enjoy learning things.
I also talked to Tom recently. He told me the same thing about how the banks took over, and sold, at list price, all the remaining stock. Though the years he mentioned were 81 for the last year of normal production, with the bank made units in 82.
I am also surprised to hear that 78 was the year that they went to the front dinette fibreglass. Every 1978 Trillium 4500 front gaucho I have ever seen uses the old bunk fibreglass. I have to admit that I have not watched the 1300 models as closely. I think the list so far shows that 1979 was the year they changed the gaucho. But, I could be wrong. They may have been building them that way in 1978, but did not sell them till 1979. Also evident in the list is that 1978 was a very good year for 4500's.

Well, I am guessing that yours is the 160th unit made. I will add a section to the list for Jubilee's. Since your Trillium is not orange on the inside and out, I have to assume the number format is kinda different.

Hi, I have a 1980 (I am taking the word of the person we bought it from, who was the second owner) Trillium 4500. It has serial number 45-1111316. It is a factory front dinette. It is the off white cream colour both inside and out. On the outside by the door, it has 3 stickers: an RVIA certification badge with number 2672378. It also has a CSA recreational vehicle sticker saying it complies with Canadian standards, but I can’t read that number even on high magnification. It also has a CRVA (Canadian Recreational Vehicle Association) sticker which is barely legible. I have written to the RVIA to see whether they can help, but have not heard back yet.

Hope that helps,
Rick G

Rick, Could you please post a picture of your front gaucho? I am interested in if it is what I call an "almost dinette". The fibreglass seats, but no table.

Serial number 13-1126837
Door sticker Issue Number 388850
Off White interior and exterior

pogophile, Same request, I would really like to see pictures, since I would have thought your trailer would be either a front dinette.
