Seven Wonders of Canada

Do you have a favourite place in Canada? Do you have a treasured spot our listeners should see?

The CBC's National and Sounds Like Canada are searching for the Seven Wonders of Canada and we need your help.

We want you to nominate what you consider to be the most wonderful place and tell us why it's so special.

Maybe it has a natural beauty. Perhaps it's because of the wildlife. It could be the people who live there. It's up to you. In short, tell us why your special place should be one of the 'Wonders of Canada.'

The list of potential Canadian wonders is wide open. You can pick an awesome natural wonder, a beautiful building, that quirky little park at the end of your street, a rock shaped like your favourite prime minister, or even a regular weather phenomenon. any physical feature in Canada. All we ask is that other Canadians be able to see it somehow.

Seven wonders will be featured in on the National and Sounds Like Canada. Make one of them yours!

How it works

The competition begins Monday April 23rd. You have two weeks to send in your nominations.

Starting May 7th a panel of judges will narrow the field, and then you get to vote online on which should be THE Seven.

So, get your nomination in. We look forward to hearing from you.

1 - I wonder why every sentence ends with "eh?"
2 - I wonder what ever happened to the second 'T' in Toronno?
3 - I wonder why we don't have Canadian Tire in the US?
4 - I wonder why road signs are bilingual everywhere except Quebec?
5 - I wonder why we don't have Tim Hortons in the US?
6 - I wonder why Canadian "roofs" are different?
7 - Sometimes I wonder why Canadians are so friendly to folks from 'our side'?

2) The correct mis-spelling of the word Toronto IS Toronna

3) Canadian Tire is in fact in the U.S. It owns many other non tire related outlets, some of which are in located the U.S. of Eh

4) ALMOST everyone in Keebec speaks Francais anyway, so WHY BOTHER

5) "Timmys" has IN FACT invaded the U.S., at least here in Warshington State

6) Canadian r fs are made from CANADIAN soft w d

2) The northern Ontarians pronounce it exactly as the locals pronounce Taranto in Italy.

5) For beignes, I prefer Country Style. I'm waiting for one to open in Silver City.

7) I've been around the world three times and to four goat ropings and I've never seen more sociable folks.

My nomination for one of the seven wonders of Canada is how you folks can stack snow up 20 feet (610 cm) high on the road side.

We seem to have HI JACKed Charlynn's serious thread here folks (SORRY)

Morgan, we pile each n every flake assorted by size/shape. This makes for a much neater, more compact(ed) pile of 'Canadian Grass'.

On the other hand (and on the other side of the 49th) Washington Pass, closed annually for snow content, this year had a (reported) record of 54 FEET!!! Yet, this same pass is due to open this weekend ALMOST a month earlier than usual.

MAYBE them thar Warshingtonians have paid attention to HOW we PILE our S t u f f ? LOL!

From what I understand, one of the Wonders should also be how most Canadian homes leave the doors unlocked...??????

Back to the original thread, I don't want to bother with nominating it at that website, but anyone who goes back east absolutely MUST take a tour of the Flower Pots at Fundy National Park in New Brunswick at low tide.....There are not flowerpots, as you normally think of them, but very tall stalks of earth with little islands on the top...they are only islands when the tide is high, of cource.

Vancouver also gets my vote! Not only because it is home of the Canucks (Go Canucks Go) but because at this time of year it is one of the few places in the country that in the morning you can put on winter clothing and go snowboarding. At lunch change into shorts for a round of golf & in the early evening change into a wind breaker and go sailing. Not many places in the country that you can do all three in one day.

But then I start to think about a few other candidates:
1) The white Kermode bear of Princess Royal Island in B.C.
2) The rocky mountains.
3) The force of West Coast winter storms and the miles of sandy beaches they produce.
4) How I can be wearing shorts and digging in my garden while my sister is still digging snow in Winnipeg.
5) The size of the man eating flies in Ontario.

It all Sounds Like Canada to me!

Well, even though I think this was supposed to be a serious posting about the natural beauties of Canada, I have to follow the majority and say----Potine! If you have been in the Quebec province and haven't tasted Potine---Shame on you!

As for the natural beauty, Lake Louise has to take high honors!

To me one wonder of Canada is that there are not only multiple languages, there are multiple currencies!!

1. Eh-Bucks (aka Loonies, Twonies/Doub-Loons)

2. Canadian Tire Dollars

3. Various Co-op Dollars
