I just found out there is one about 30 miles from me!

I first learned about the Futuro house when Playboy magazine did an article about them, probably in the late 60's. I still have that magazine. It showed one being flown to it's location by a big helicopter. They actually were made in sections. The one on the Outer Banks is no longer in use, sets along the road with images of aliens in the windows.

Me? I read it for the interviews. I recall Jimmy Carter saying he had "lusted in his heart..." Boy, that was a different lifetime.

This was our first trailer, a teardrop. Not a molded fiberglass, but it's what I've got here.

I don't have any pictures of our Scamp alongside big rigs, and on further reflection, I realized it's because we have never been around any. I don't think we've ever pulled into a freeway rest area, and we've never camped in one of those lined-up-like-a-trailer-park places.

The kinds of en route stops we like to make usually involve figuring out how to shoehorn our rig into regular parking spaces where no trailer parking is available. I have parallel parked on the street, and once I squeezed into a single end parking space along a curb in a packed In-N-Out Burger joint. I have appreciated all the places we have been able to get in and out of that would be completely off limits to the big guys.

For camping we choose spacious, widely-separated, no-hook-up sites with more tents and tent trailers than giant motorhomes and fivers. Wouldn't want the Scamp to get an inferiority complex!

I do have a favorite picture that fits the theme of this thread, though. It's not mine, but I recalled having seen it in the registry of member Mike L. I hope I'm not infringing by reposting it here:

IF these photos work, the first is my 13' between two semis, a common sight at Calif roadside rests. The second (hopefully visible and upright) is a truck in a rest area. The driver was excited to tell me about it: he is carrying a pretty new tractor, bought at an auction, headed for dismantling. Bought for $16,000, the engine is worth twice that. The semi ran into a guard rail which 'speared' the tractor, with the rail passing beneath the driver''s feet and exiting the back of the cab, damaging the rear wheels and tires. You can see the barrier railing; it had to be cut off in front and in the rear to load the tractor on the flatbead trailer . Scary ! David in Fresno and Sonora, CA
