Talking

Friday, August 10, about 3:30 PM:
A 17' widebody Burro, being towed by a dark Red Jeep Liberty northbound on Interstate 15 at about Balboa Avenue. I was in my work truck, a Ford E250 van, with SAN DIEGO SCALE COMPANY on the side heading South, but I waved anyway.

I'm just back from a trailerless drive of 2000 miles - from NW Wyoming to Atlanta. In that time I only saw two fiberglass trailers - one a Scamp near Nashville and a Boler in the parking lot at Mammoth Cave, KY. Perhaps everyone was driven off the road by the 3 million Harleys heading for Sturgis!

I know people are on the road with their trailers and getting to Wyoming somehow as I've seen many Scamps and Casitas heading up to the east entrance to Yellowstone in July and August.

when - Saturday 2007 Aug 11, about 11:45 am MDT
where - westbound on the Yellowhead highway between 66 St and 50 St, in Edmonton, Alberta
what - a [b]Scamp 19', towed by a pickup truck

I have not seen a Scamp 19' in person before, and was so surprised I forgot to note any real detail, but as I recall it was a white extended-cab or crew-cab domestic full-size pickup truck. The Scamp looked surprisingly big (I suppose because it is tall for an egg), but still not so big in comparison to the tug.

It occurs to me now that it could possibly have been an Escape 5.0, but I was sure at the time from the shape that it was a Scamp.

I doubt one could be awake and see only two eggs on a drive of that length around here in the summer!

when - Saturday 2007 Aug 11, late afternoon
where - southbound on the St. Albert Trail, between the 137 Ave and the Yellowhead, in Edmonton, Alberta
what - a 13' Boler, pulled by a custom truck

This was a nice-looking egg, white-over-orange, colour-matched to the street rod style panel truck (1950's, I assume, but I didn't get a good look). St. Albert had their Rock'n August festival this weekend, featuring lots of custom cars, so I thought there might be an egg or two. I didn't make it to the show 'n' shine, so I don't know if there were any others.

See what I mean, John... one day of local driving and two egg sightings...

Most of these sightings are of vehicles going the other way, so I find that I never get a very good look!

lots of 'glass during our recent travels:

8/6/2007 -

rest area on I-94 near Bighorn, MT - met Kathy & Jason and their brand new Scamp 13 pulled by a teal Ford Ranger. They live in nearby Colstrip, MT and had just picked up their Scamp a few weeks before. We gave them a FGRV card and encouraged them to join & come to a rally.

I-94 WB - Casita and red extended cab pickup

I-94 WB a bit further on - Casita ... did not get a look at the tug, as it was an ugly construction zone with zooming 2-way traffic separated only by cones

8/07/2007 -

I-94 WB east of Terry, MT - unmarked Scamp (a la the "Naked Casita") pulled by a dark colored sedan. we blinked our lights, but driver was concentrating on the road ahead.

I-94 WB about 2:00 pm - 16/17 ft. Casita and dark green tug - thanx for waving back

8/12/2007 in SCAMP country:

MN SR87 near the Scamp factory - a 2-toned gold Trillium drove thru the C-store lot and continued down the road ... we didn't have a chance to wave or ???

And this morning, we saw LOTS of Scamps ... all shiny & new, waiting to go to their new "nests" from Backus, MN. We have an appt for factory upgrades on Wed - exciting things happening. Hope everyone is having lots of summer camping fun. L 'n D

Ok, we're out on the road again. Parked behind a 16' Scamp at Lehman caves in Grand Basin NP in Nevada.

More than a 1000 miles from there, we've only seen a Casita traveling west on hwy 50.

British Columbia and Alberta are full of fiberglass trailers.

On our recent trip of 5800Km from Alberta, through BC, Washington, Oregon, California, back through Oregon, Washington, Idaho, BC and finally Alberta gain...we couldn't keep track of the Bolers, Trilliums, Scamps, Compact Jrs., and Bigfoots we saw in Canada, then when we were in the USA we only saw 3 Casitas, 2 scamp 5th Wheels, 1 Scamp 13ft, 1 Boler, 1 T@B, 1 Compact Jr, and 1 Bigfoot. Then 2hrs in BC and we lost count again...like Brian said earlier, it is hard not to see a fiberglass trailer in western Canada.

We didn't see one Trillium in the USA, however many people stopped to ask us what kind of trailer we had.

Where: Seward, Alaska
When: August 19
My first Bigfoot sighting! TV was grey.

(Also saw a Casita in a parking lot, and a newish teardrop camped along the waterfront. Have fond memories of the old teardrop we pulled on our journey to Alaska in 1979.)

Last month drove between Idaho and Utah several times and saw no glass rigs whatsoever. They don't know what they're missing!

A little 13' Scamp with red striping pulled by a green Toyota pickup Sunday afternoon at 3:20 pm on 105/126 between Eugene and Springfield. You were heading toward Springfield or the McKenzie River. Where were you going?

Saw a Casita, looked like a 16 to me, it was pulling into a tire dealer in the north part of Florence Oregon. This was about 11:30.

Duck Creek campground on Cedar Mountain Utah, between Cedar Breaks and Brice Canyon.
Had a nice visit with the Andersons who were camped with their Casita August 8 through 13th.

Hi all - some more Eggs -

Aug 8th -

Burro tugged by minivan WB on US10 in MN;

"some type of molded FG trailer" pulled by small red SUV - I-94 WB near mm 101. This trailer had dark green accent stripes on the hull but no logo we could see. This was also in "Minnee-soaka" ... phew, can it rain here! Our friend said we should hire out as "drought busters", as MN has been in a terrible drought, and during the 8 days we were in the state, it rained 6! Hmmm

Aug 21 -

13 ft Scamp 'moored' in Island Park CG, Adel, Iowa. This one looked like it had been here quite a while ... another 13ft full-timer,, perhaps?

Happy camping, L 'n D

On Tuesday, August 28 in Ennis, MT saw a Bigfoot Trailer. Didn't catch the Tow Vehicle type, the trailer was maybe a 17 or 21 foot. We were heading south on Rt 287 towing a 25' Bigfoot TT with a gray Armada. Smack in the middle of Ennis--I beeped, you waved. This was the first new BF trailer we've seen since we bought ours over a year ago.
