Smile Solar Eclipse

Everyone,

There will be a solar eclipse crossing the west coast of the US with the center coming ashore just south of Eureka, CA, about 5pm PDT.

WARNING: Don't look at the sun directly. Use some optical device to project upon a piece of paper. (see pictures for a suggestion)

Totality will travel across southern Nevada and northern Arizona and go right over Albuquerque, but by then it will be well into evening.

Will miss it here, unfortunately. We were in Okinawa for the one in 2009, it was like 99.8% totality where I was, and it still looked like a hazy sunny day. That .2% really shows you how bright that sun really is!

I put a small mirror on a tripod in the yard, then shot the reflection into the (relatively) dark house onto a white piece of paper taped to the wall (may have been the back of a calendar, I made the whole setup in about 20 min from stuff laying around). I took a time-lapse but it was tough because I needed to adjust the mirror every couple minutes and the image moved around on the wall. Still really cool to see.

Unhappy Solar Eclipse

Sorry, everyone. The eclipse was last year. Our next one will be 3Nov2013.
It is amazing how one can 'see' what one wants to.
Roger

(I seem to recall that we had overcast skies last year. Maybe it was just wishful thinking.)
