well all is loaded up in the 13f scamper today the outside closing of the door is hard but the inside closing works like a champ.

I had the locking mechanism in the outside door handle fail suddenly without warning less than 24 hours before we left on our very first trip with our Scamp.

An exact replacement was available at a local RV shop. Before I found that, I discovered in a pinch a standard square shaft garage door handle (T- or L-style) will work, too. Most hardware stores stock them. Changing it is a simple matter of 2 screws and a hack saw to cut off the excess shaft.

Just in case "hard" becomes "impossible" on the road...

Spray a little wd-40 in the outside door lock. The potmetal of the handle gets a little corroded inside the machined part of the handle and causes this issue. WD-40 will free it right up to work properly.

As I'm sure has been mentioned,WD40 is a solvent, great for freeing up but will actually attract dirt. You may want to use a lubricant such as white lithium grease afterwards. Have fun.

Agree. I use powdered graphite in the lock mechanism and white lithium lubricant on other moving parts, especially the hinges.

Here's a good lube for locks. I used it on my stiff padlocks outdoors and I didn't need to lube them for another 2 years. The padlocks were exposed to the elements.

The point of WD-40 being used is its penetrating action to get between the lock cylinder and the pot metal handle to free the corrosion building up in there. Using a dry lubricant like graphite inside the cylinder to keep the pins and springs in good working condition is good at not attracting dirt. In this application WD-40 was recommended to free a corrosion issue and not leave an objective mess. After a short period of time the WD-40 carrier goes away and leaves very little behind. It will help with his particular problem.
