Tesla Truck Just Revealed

Tesla just announced their first truck reveal.
Searching online can find you all kinds of information, including a possible towaing capacity that is beyond belief. 300,000 pounds is not a typo! But it may apply to a model that's not yet available or be some marketing ploy I don't know the trick to.

Said to have a million-mile battery system, a 220-mile driving range before recharging, six-person capacity inside, accommodating people as large as Andre the Giant at 7'4"...costing roughly $50,000.

Clearly, Elon Musk and his designers were having a blast with these designs.

Even a normal towing capacity of 6,000 pounds or 3600 could mean the difference between being able to continue camping and not, as we move away from fossil fuels in the future. <3 <3 <3

I expect to have fuel available for the rest of my life and certainly for the life of my new truck.
I know that the refinery with which I was associated has announced plans which involve continual improvements reaching out as far as 2050.
We don't yet have a Tax in place which will require Electric vehicles to pay equivalent road use taxes.
Electric vehicles are still mostly "coal powered" or "natural gas powered" or what ever the electricity is made from.


Problem is, the CO2 hoax may well destroy the prosperity which supports travel of any kind. As for camping... maybe there will be an app for that!

If your local utility uses natural gas to generate power, the efficiency is at best 60% (40% loss). Meanwhile, a natural gas furnace for the home can be purchased with 95% efficiency.

Its all about how the power is generated, along with the efficiency of the electric motor.

Coal is MUCH worse. On power generation, its only about 35% efficient. Tremendous loss means you have to burn more to generate the same amount of power.

Hydo power in the PNW has been green for decades.

Justus C: 2050 is within the lifetimes of many of us (not us, personally); the future is coming, though. Thanks; I agree, it's fun to look ahead.

This is indeed the model that was revealed, but if you can to go my link above, there are dozens more they're working on. They have considered far prettier trucks, many painted. 7,500 towing capacity is great. I didn't "think" this particular one was the one with that lauded, ridiculous towing capacity.


Alex Adams: thanks for that specific link! Glad to know more about it. The things we found this AM were a mélange of press releases, some obviously not accurate.

In our area, it's hydroelectric. I agree, there are other issues with electric power; batteries, for one.

BUT. I have often wondered how camping will look in the (far) future when fossil fuels are gone, and electric cars can barely haul themselves and their batteries. I can see Tesla is coming right along with innovations. Doesn't mean we're lining up to buy one right now.

We like our Dodge Grand Caravan just fine.
But at least I can look ahead 46 years to when Peanut is twice as old as it is now, and know that someone will be able to tow it anyway, with or without fossil fuels.

I know, it's stupid to worry about such things. Thanks to all who point that out.

Certainly electric vehicles have many advantages. Primarily, simplicity and reliability. Motors and electronic power conversion technology, electronics in general all have proven very high reliability. For me, I am waiting for a hybrid Tacoma, or Tundra.


This is a great concept for a contractor that does not have to travel great distances. I have the following.



1. What is the range when towing a 5000 pound trailer?
2. How does this work with a ladder rack?
3. How does it accommodate a tool box in the back?
4. A cap would surely be an unusual shape!

Going all-electric for transportation would require, among other things, a complete overhaul of the national power grid. It’s already fragile and near capacity in many regions.

There’s no free lunch, and the real issue is demand.
