Has any one got an update on the fires around Mt Davis Javelina Roundup ? wonder if it will still be on last i have heard that the camp ground was out of water, and no power ?
A lot of Ft Davis burned, I don't know about the campground area but the town of Ft Davis lost some historic buildings. There was also a fire in Alpine started by one discarded cigarette, It burned about 15,000 plus acres.
Part of the " problem" with Davis Mtns SP is they are using it to "house" firefighters who are still working in the area.
Downtown Ft. Davis escaped (this time); Indian Lodge is okay, McDonald Observatory escaped, the CDI is okay... Once Tx Parks & Wildlife reopens the park, this community will be more than grateful for our business, as their ranching is seriously undermined by the loss of grazing land (for the immediate future). They will need tourists... and maybe some volunteers to help with some rebuilding.

WTF! I don't care whether or not somebody wants to smoke, but for crying out loud there's just no excuse for tossing butts on the ground, particularly ones that are still burning. In the horse world we just learned that a burning cigarette thrown out a car window landed in big horse trailer, the subsequent fire killing all six horses in the rig. http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-raci...lls-six-horses
Jen, the not so funny part of the cigarette fire is that it was started by a Sul Ross student at the Sul Ross Equine center, there were witnesses, no homes or animals lost that I know of.
