Tired of winter already!

Its been a long winter here in Edmonton and it isn't even winter yet! We have had snow on the ground for the last 6 weeks and down to -26c. I got the roof brace into the Ventura the day before the first dump.

hahaha.....i couldn't agree with you more, and we only got a dump of 3 inches last week..otherwise we've been clean and dry!

we just watched a movie on tv called four christmases....i haven't laughed so much in a very long time.....and it reinforced to me that we should be in florida---or figi----right now instead of dealing with cold and snow!!!!

spring----you cannot come soon enough!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Talked to my aunt in Saint John and she said the same thing , only about a 1/2" been seen so far, we have about 1 1/2 ft of the darn stuff and I have used my snow blower more this fall than all of last year. Heading south for christmas and getting the hell out of here!

Yes my folks were from Saint John but my father was in the Forces so only spent a couple of years in NB but it was damn cold with the dampness, Alberta get crazy cold but no humidity( it turns to ice fog and falls to the ground). I did spend my summers as a kid in Maces Bay where the lepreau generating station is(damn government took all our family land there and all that is left is a ball diamond and a rose bush)

Dudley,,,being from Saskatoon and working outside for almost 40 years there I understand of what you speak!
One of the main reasons we moved to Creston BC to retire.
Hook up that Ventura and point it south!!
A couple a months in SoCal or Ariz will help.

We were tired of winter before it even started, that's why we headed south Thanksgiving day. Today we were sitting on the beach in Georgia, temp was close to 70, and it was sunny. This is the first winter for us being snowbirds, it surely won't be the last.

david---maces bay is a gorgeous area--we love driving the loop from musquash down past chance harbour and back up to lepreau---very beautiful and VERY maritime!!

we have friends who have left NB for the winter--and headed to fernie, bc.
their daughter is expecting their first grandchild. they tell me there's lots of snow there but the cold is "different"...a dry cold. coming from very humid southern ontario, i've not experienced this dry cold. but it's still cold.

the older i get, the cold seems to creep into my bones more. i remember the neighbour next door--his mom, his czech baba, living with them and i think of her sitting on her lawn chair, mid july and august in that darn humid toronto heat, with her black wool winter coat on, her babushka tight around her head and a big blanket on her legs---to help the heat and the sun soak deep into her bones! that will be me one day! i can't seem to get enough heat from the sun.

and mary and bob---i am green with envy for you! we journeyed south the past few years, spending between 6-9 weeks in florida and south carolina. found south carolina(myrtle beach state park)not nearly warm enough in feb and march and so headed further south...from now on, our plans always include a visit on our way back home..when it's warmed up there. love both areas!! have a terrific winter!!

I was down there this summer to visit my parent graves in Dipper Harbor and its a great drive if its nice but when that fog rolls in

picture is Dipper Harbor just after low tide, check out the high water mark on the wharf, had more than a few folks tie up the boats to it at high tide and come back to find thier boats hanging in mid air

Okay, colour me weird, but I love winter. Lots of fun activities to be had, that can't be done in summer. Skiing, mostly X-C but downhill too, skating on a frozen pond, sledding down the hillside, and lots of other fun things to do. Plus, it looks beautiful too.

Being a dog owner, we are required by him to go out for an hour or more, every day without fail, regardless of how cold, wet, windy or hot it is. If he can do it with only his fur coat, I certainly can with the right gear too.

I actually love living where we get a good variety in the seasons, each one gives further appreciation of the next one.

I would love to do the snowbird thing, but that darn"working for a living" is still a reality. A few more years to go, wife retires in March. if only my RRSP's were bringing in some coin.

I think I found something more tired of winter than any of us.
I was miles from no where in the High Desert of Nevada yesterday.

I spotted a wild horse or burro all by him or herself way off in the distance.
I watched for almost 15 minutes and it never moved.
Horses and burros are gregarious animals and stay in herds.
I guess this one may have been to old or sick to keep up with the herd.
I think this is the saddest picture I've ever taken.

Very windy and cold here today. I guess I can put up with it for another 10 days. Death Valley by New Years.
