To those in this years hurricane paths

To all those in Texas and Florida. I hope that things are going good as can be had, and prayers to you all. Be safe.

I couldn't agree more Patrick. We are always sympathetic to all storm victims, but this one is more personal to us. Our daughter is in St Petersburg and already had to evacuate the island she lived on in Tampa Bay. She is with friends toward the center of town now, but far from safe. Traffic jams prevented her from leaving the area. Needless to say we won't be getting much sleep until this is over. Thanks for your concern!

I have some old clothes I was going to take to a local thrift goodwill, but I can send a package out if any of you need some stuff.

Echo the sentiments expressed!
Wishing you could send some of that rain here to Alberta. It's so dry here we have a travel ban. No boondocking all summer!
Trailer ready to go all summer and no place to use it.

We in Seattle will also offer to take any excess rain if you can arrange delivery.
But only on weekdays until the 19th; then again after the 24th.
Too bad it can't work like that.

Our most hopeful thoughts are with you all as well.

BEST
Kai

We're heading to our Florida Park from NJ in the morning, hoping to get their Friday to help with the recovery. In the morning we'll find out if our place is standing.

This storm has been tough to plan evacuations, changing course. Consider yourself blessed if you have a fiberglass hotel room on wheels to evacuate in.

Two of our most populated states have had disasters back to back. Three states if you count the fires in California. Now is a good time to visit and refer others to Ready.gov

You don't have to acquire everything on your Ready.gov checklist at once. Just get one item or group every pay day. No need to panic. There's no reason not to have some tuna & pasta on hand.

These make great gifts. Note this model has a threaded vent cap & these stack in a closet. Comes with built-in spigot. To reduce the weight, just fill partially. With a grease pen, write an expiration date one year out. If expired and not refilled, just boil, filter, add Bleach or Halazone.

PS, How many thousands of five year-old stick builts are speeding toward TX & FL. Kill two birds with one used stick built? - Pretty good way to dispose of them.

Norm and Ginny, if Karma exists, you'll be ok. Best of luck!

This evening I was watching a youtube video which showed images of floods that have happened this year. They showed 4 to 7 floods each month in different parts of the world. Add to that all the fires and earthquakes. They also said that there were six "1,000-year flood" events within a 5 month period in 2016. Things seem to be escalating.

My heart goes out to everyone affected by Hurricane Irma! Hopefully power can be replaced soon so cleanup can take place! We will see the remnants of the tropical storm here in SC and hopefully there will be very little damage if any.

This is going to sound funny coming from someone who planned reaching from S FL to Canada in 4 days via superhighways this past summer, but I really encourage everyone to buy an atlas of at least their home state. I detest superhighways in daily life (another legacy from my father, who positively GLORIED in finding byways)We had a class 9 solar Xflare a few days ago which space weather observers warned might impact satellite communications (there goes your GPS). Anyway, when we evacuated we came from S FL up US 27. Only got on the turnpike for supposed to be about 20 minutes (turned into almost an hour-stop and go) to reach US301. Stayed the night at the KOA in Starke, FL, just off 301. Then took SR 100 to US 41 and came north into GA on that. 75 is normally extremely congested nearing Atlanta and nerve wracking to me in the best of times, we got on it for about 25 minutes and then exited to find Us23 to take us to DDs.

We felt sorry for the gridlock we could see on the traffic cams on my FL 511. We found "Vacancy" signs out at the mom and pop motels along these back roads, and groceries and gas available, when stuff right off the superhighways quickly ran out.

When we return to S FL we will once againbe travelling back roads.

My Hart and prayers, go out, to all of you , who are victims, as well as, the families of victims.
I have always wondered, how does some one prepare for hurricanes and tornadoes.
so scary to me.
good luck to you all.
Evie
