Just thought I'd split this out as a separate topic from the tire chains post, as it's pretty unrelated...

What was your air temp this am? We hit -20 air temp...plus wind chill! ouch!
Right now it has warmed up to a balmy -28C with a wind chill of ONLY -34C. Yesterday's low temp was -34.3 (that's without the wind chill)

Our power (and therefore furnace also...) was out for a few hours last night and my truck won't start.

AZ is looking pretty good right now.

It's even cold here on Vancouver Island - currently running -3 during the day and -8 during the nights.

We are in a cold spell here, why its +50 degrees in the day and a frightful + 33 at night lately, the news channels are blaming the Canadians for not holding the cold back...It might even snow?

Your welcome to park back next to the peach and apricot tree if you want too. I really like Arizona in December and the car starts too!

Harry

+50... I am tempted.
I'm getting too old for this weather, the snow, shoveling out over 200' of sidewalks, frozen batteries, frozen condensation on the inside of my home's cheap windows which then melts uncontrollably during the daytime as soon as the sun hits them and makes a huge mess if I don't catch it in time, etc, etc... It's even cold inside here, my feet are freezing!

I guess I shouldn't complain as we do have members here who are much more northern and they are probably much more cold - the Alaskans and Ches come to mind.

If I could work in the states I'd put more thought into it, but even if I could get a visa, I don't think there would be much for jobs in my line of work with the economy these days.

Vancouver got a couple of inches, mid vancouver island (nanaimo) seems to have received the most. Here in the comox valley we have a few inches but it's sticking around with this cold weather - my kids are thrilled =)

-30C(-22F) here this morning, quite nippy, but with all the snow it sure is gorgeous. I just love winter (and all the other seasons too). It is pretty hard to downhill ski without the cold and snow.

Hi: All...We woke up to a temp of 50*F. here and expect it to flip/flop to 15*F. over nite. The snow is gone...the grass is green and I just finished replacing 1 string of LED lights outside. Only half of the string would light then again sometimes I'm only half lit too!!!

It's 57 in Tennessee, but I'm NOT there..... I was going to be.... stupid economy.

Grrrrr 6 degree F this AM when I had to fight to get the frozen door open so I could go to the job I was going to leave last March. Stupid economy.

Alf, if you drink the other half of the bottle of Christmas cheer, you might be fully lit then. :0

Pete, I so hear you on the economy issue, recent events have put off my planned retirement by a few years too.

Jim.. I hear you .... I have been THINKING AND THINKING about whether to postpone my planned retirement. I am out in ONE MORE YEAR. Dec 2009. "so far" I am still going for it. I am so blessed to have a defined benefit plan - plus i have been socking $$ away into both a 401k and a section 457 plan. House is paid off. my estimated check from CalPERS (California Public Employees Retirement System) **SHOULD BE** good enough.

Hopefully.

But, still, it is kinda scary.

Recent events accelerated my planned retirement by 16 months (I still have the BOOT print on my butt ). We are lucky, since we were "almost" ready for retirement. 10 more COBRA (health insurance) payments and 4 more mortgage payments left. Maybe we can get our egg before the end of 2009.

It's a hair above the teens here and headed there fast, with the cold wind howling in from the Gorge.

Nice walk with the dog this morning despite the violent wind gusts. As soon as we got back in she insisted on going into the back yard to play some more in the snow. I'll be looking for a dog psychiatrist. Arctic dog, but there's got to be a limit.

well, it's not really THAT cold in Anchorage. 18 F or so right now at 6 PM, and it was around zero last night. we're not like Fairbanks, Tok, or Northway where it' gets -40F or worse, often (-40 F = -40 C also). It seems the mental picture of 'Alaska' to most is that we're all icicles when really the state is quite diverse. Down along the panhandle it snows but mainly they just rust along w/ the Pacific Northwesterners with all the rain. Here in Anchorage the worst it normally gets is -20 F (-29 C), and we'll have snow on the ground until mid-April so more sledding is in our future...

Yesterday, the high temperature in Dallas was 79* F. Today the high was 32* F. And tonight we are getting freezing rain with worries about glazed bridges and overpasses.

Yep my weekly customers were calling in asking if we were open tonight. Only the diehards showed up for class. (1hr north Dallas)

Talking

I lived in Milwaukee Wisconsin for 36 years.
The hottest I saw there was 106°
and the coldest -28°.
