toyota tundra for towing a bigfoot 3000 tt ?

i'm considering our options, one of which would be a tundra for towing a bigfoot 3000 tt.

would your opinions on the above.

Hi Simon!

First, the 3000 series Bigfoot trailers ar NOT molded fiberglass; they're bonded panels assembled in a more conventional fashion, so we don't discuss them much here.

As a Bigfoot 25RQ owner, I'll tell you that the 3000 series are HEAVY. MUCH heavier than my 25RQ. And I do tow my 25RQ with an '02 Tundra occasionally.

You don't say which Tundra you're considering. None but the latest oversize Tundra would be appropriate for the 3000 series trailers, and even then, the 3000 series is in the realm of the 3/4 ton and 1 ton trucks. While the 28' 3000 has an unladen tongue weight of 875 lbs, well within the Class III spec for hitches, the reality is that the loaded trailer will be pushing a thousand pounds necessitating a Class IV receiver on the truck (1,200 lb max tongue weight, 12,000 lb tow capacity). I'm not sure what the new Tundras come with equipped, but I doubt it'd be a Class IV. I'm not sure I'd want to try that with any 1/2 ton rated truck, regardless of what the "tow capacity" is as advertised. That's clearly heavier truck territory.

You don't say which Bigfoot model you're looking at, or which truck you prefer. According to the Bigfoot site, the 30T2401 has a dry weight of 6170 lbs and the 30T2801 has a dry weight of 7338 lbs. Add in your food, clothes, propane, water, and personal accessories and you have 2-300 lbs more. Now go to Toyota's web site and pick your model and engine and look at their specs and options to find the towing capacity. Have fun looking .

did not realize the 3000 was not a molded fg shell.

the tundra will be the a 2007 + 5.7 liter or the diesel version [believe it when i see it] that toyota said they would bring out in for 2009.

i'm still interested in a molded fg shell bigfoot like the one you own. my wife and i would live in it fulltime.

i would imagine the new tundra would be adequate for towing the Bigfoot 25RQ???

We just got back from a 3,500 km trip into Washington and Oregon with our 2008 Tundra 5.7 and our 2008 Bigfoot 25Fb. The FB is heavier than the RQ, with ours being about 6300 lbs on the axles in camping mode. We were very pleased with the performance of the Tundra and lots of power for hills. Our unit is a double cab with a tow rating of 10,300 lbs, but doubt that I would want to tow the 28 Bigfoot with this unit.
