Trail Mite VIN

Hello!
We've recently purchased a 1972 Trail Mite from out of state. We're in Indiana.
They require a VIN inspection. We can't locate the VIN. Does anyone have any idea where it is? Or do I just have the police come see if they can locate it?

We would really like to move on from struggling with getting it plated so we can start making plans to camp!

VIN numbering convention, at least for motor vehicles in the US, wasn't standardized until 1981. Your 1972 pre-dates any real standardization so my guesses are going to be exactly that.
"Typically", for that vintage, a trailer's unique ID number would be found on a paper sticker adhered to an inside cabinet door, or other location near the entry. There might also have been a printed (maybe not stamped or embossed) tag with a unique identifier stuck on the forward part of the camper's left side frame.
Either of those are not all that durable and may have decayed to an unreadable state by now.

We had this happen with a Scamp but we knew what the number was from the title paperwork that we got. So, we just bought some little metal stamps and stamped the number into the frame. DMV was none the wiser
