The truck scales in BC and Idaho that I have been on you just pull in and weigh as the scale is always on and you will just see your weight on the digital board up ahead. There is no paper print out or payment

Thanks! Will try to find one before we reach the Thousand Islands Bridge. I've kept a running list of items added (load stuff in large TupperWare bins and weigh each before taking it to the Boler) but would really like to know the actual versus the estimated weight.

My Bigfoot 21 (R gave the following numbers yesterday on the way home from the fall NOG:

Tow tug is a 2006 Silverado 3500 Duramax 4X4

Drove onto scale ( all 4 wheels on scale platform) - truck weight is 7400 lb incl tongue weight of trailer.

Pulled ahead until both trailer axles were ON the scale platform, and truck was OFF the platform - trailer weight 4400 lb
pulled ahead until just rear axle was on platform - 2200 lb (looks like it is loaded right for towing!)

Black & grey tanks drained, fresh water tank half full. One 30 lb propane tank empty, one is new and 100% full. Single group 27 deep cycle battery. All five tires are now new!

No idea of hitch/tongue weight as it was pouring rain - a veritable pounding del-huge! - and my dedication to full knowledge and disclosure only goes so far! I was NOT gonna jump out to unhitch, rehitch etc. So, for what its worth......

After the previous week`s epic adventures involving tires (a screw through the sidewall of a tire that was purchased on my way home from spring NOG, an explosion of a 3 week-old Bad-year timebomb run at 65 psi and at 55 mph (no spare at that point so I was being super-extra cautious!) for about 20 or so miles before it blew and having to borrow a spare from a buddy`s Frod Ranger just to get home, well, I now have 4 road tires from Les Schwab, of which 3 are the ones purchased in the spring after several other Marathons did what Marathons do, plus a new Les Schwab spare.

The Les Schwab Towmaster that got the screw thru the sidewall was replaced free under warranty. The badyear timebomb was taken back and a full, no-questions asked refund was obtained.

The Prodigy 3 that failed as I was leaving for the NOG was also replaced free under warranty as they carry a lifetime warranty and they stand behind their product, with excellent service and aftercare.

Smile Some more information

For the person on post #100 who was thinking of adding brakes. Here is the link to Dexter, a major axle mfr:

http://dexteraxle.com/i/u/6149609/f/...0_Lbs_1-12.pdf

Looks like the brake/no brake axles are different.

On weighing:

We once weighed our Trillium at Palmer Coking Coal in Black Diamond, WA.
When the woman found out that we didn't want a certified copy, ($5) she said that she would turn the scale on and I could weigh what I wanted for free.

Same with our local dump. Free unless you want paperwork... Of course, you feel a little guilty when the trucks start lining up behind you!

Agree with honda03842 to a point on showing TV type, but some would find a 4cyl to small even to pull a 13' trailer so may not be a good idea.
We may save on gas and be legal but there are those that feel we all need a large TV with a V8 regardless for size.
These comments are not meant to offend anyone or start a heated debate but to respect all. Some trailers do require a V8 others may need a V6 or 4cyl; the point is we must keep it legal and go with our experience and the advice of the experts. Still maybe it will change veiws about what is ok?

Engine technology is changing. Seems like one of the most powerful engines in the late model Ford pickups is a turbo V-6, which is stronger than the V8. The Ford Escape 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder this year is rated to pull 3500 lbs. My non-turbo Subaru 4 cyl is rated to tow 2700 lbs and does it pretty good!

Wow-

I hadn't looked at this thread for a l-o-o-o-n-g time...
When did it turn into a discussion of tow vehicles instead of a report of the actual "real world" weight of trailers???

On that subject, assuming a related question is still allowed:

Does the weight chart in post #1 reflect the addition of all the weights data reported by various posters?

Thanks- I hope!

Francesca

I used color coding to signify different variations.

All other line items were weighed by me personally.

Thanks, Frederick!

We now return the thread to whatever it was they were talking about...

When I answered what I thought was Norm's simple request. I had actually collected that data for every rig that I weighed. I thought I had destroyed all of my copies of the "certificates of participation" that I gave those people who had their trailers weighed by me as soon as I created this post. I found the paperwork for the ones in post #154 in my office, and added the Tow Vehicle data in a separate post, but did not go back to post #1 and include it there.

for pointing out that the focus here is on the TRAILER.

If we were on rv net, we'd be hearing a bunch of comments about how we all need a big diesel 3/4 ton pickup! Lol. People can view the data in the table and make their own conclusions and decisions.

As if anything's ever simple, right? Shall I further muddy the waters?

In my opinion, the data would be most useful if model years were included for all tows/tugs mentioned. There are some very significant differences between earlier/later models!

Just my two cents- worth about half due to inflation

True older version of our car was smaller and
Ours has:
Vehicle Stability Control (VSC)
Traction Control (TRAC)
Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS)
Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD)
Brake Assist (BA)
Smart Stop Technology (SST)
Tow package:
Safety electronic traction system monitors trailer some how?
Proportional Trailer brake module
Transaxle cooler
Class III frame hitch(not just bolted to back like as class I or truck hitch)
Full size spare part of tow package
Do not think all these safety systems were available in the past

Cars and trucks are changing but ideas about what is possible is not? (in some circles)
The basic ratings are often based on basic car or truck without extra optional systems or trailer brakes.

This thread is a *great* resource and I agree that due to the frequency that the question as to what tow vehicle can handle such and such a trailer is asked, the addition of tow vehicle info would be an added benefit. Suspect from the above comments that it might also be a surprise to some to see what their tow options may be to explore further and just how many others are actually already pulling with a fuel efficient 4 or 6 cyl that are rated by the manufacture to pull what they are pulling. Times and attitudes are indeed changing.

But it would be *really* nice as has already be suggested that the discussion as to details of the tows themselves and what the manufactures towing specs really mean was to take place on another thread. Just saying.

um... Model years of TVs were included. I went back and edited the model years to be 4 digits instead of the original 2 digits.
